100 M 1. Jared Zickafoose Hurricane
2. Kelshawn Grant Woodrow Wilson
3. Gavin Lewis Brooke
4. Deonte Glover Musselman
5. Logan Wooddell Parkersburg
6. Trevon Smith Jefferson
Zickafoose and Grant appear to be slightly ahead of the field with their times from
the Gazette Relays. However, when you look at the 2nd best times for everyone in the
group, it gets pretty messy with 9 guys within 0.12 of each other. Zickafoose is the
only one in the group to go under 11.0 FAT. Grant gets the 2nd place nod based on that
Gazette run. Lewis is the only one with multiple runs under 11.20. Glover has stepped
forward late in the season. Wooddell is consistently fast. Smith has stepped forware
late as well. Five in the field have been under 11.20. 9 have been 11.25 or under.
11 have been 11.30 or under.
200 M 1. Darius Booker Riverside
2. Stephen DeMoss Shape Spring
3. Logan Wooddell Parkersburg
4. Jared Zickafoose Hurricane
5. Craye Nehler Jefferson
6. Marcus Lofton Buckhannon-Upshur
This is another tough tone. Booker is the only one with multiple runs under 22.60,
and he has 3 of them, one in each of the last 3 meets. DeMoss finished right on Booker's
heels at the Regional. Wooddell is one of just two with 3 runs under 22.80, and the
only one with 5 runs under 23 seconds. Zickafoose scored a 22.61 at the Gazette Relays.
Nehler has four runs under 23 seconds, with each soming in May. Lofton actually has
the 3rd best top time in the group, but that is his only run under 23 seconds. 11 in
the field have run under 23 seconds.
400 M 1. Jacob Kilgore Spring Valley
2. Daniel Jarrell Cabell Midland
3. Will Walker George Washington
4. Antonio Jones Ripley
5. Logan Wooddell Parkersburg
6. Brandon Mallett Buckhannon-Upshur
Kilgore has the top time in the field, but just by 0.13. He has five runs under 50
seconds, while no one else has more than 2. Jarrell beat Kilgore at the MSAC meet
and has a pair of runs under 50 seconds. Walker is the only other one to have gone
under 50 seconds. Jones is the only other one to have been faster than 51 seconds, and
he's done it 3 times. Wooddell has a pair of runs under 51.3. Mallett has four runs
under 52 seconds, with 3 of those being 51.6 or better. 11 in the field have been under
52 seconds.
800 M 1. Jacob Kilgore Spring Valley
2. Antonio Jones Ripley
3. Will Sheils Cabell Midland
4. Nic Cheuvront Parkersburg
5. Geandre Jones Capital
6. Jacob Harmon Hurricane
Kilgore has the top time in the field by just over a second, has three runs under 2:00
and is the defending champion. Jones has a pair of runs under 2:00 and historically steps
up at the State Meet. Sheils is the only one other than Kilgore to crack 1:58. He has
three runs under 2:00. Cheuvront also has 3 runs under 2:00 and 2 more under 2:00.30.
He was the runner-up last year, and he's better this year, but he'll be contending for
the 1600 title in the morning session in what will likely be a hard-fought race. I think
it will hurt him in the 800 just a bit. Jones also has three runs under 2:00. Harmon has
the next best tie in the group. 7 in the field have been under 2:00. Only one other has
been under 2:02.
1600 M 1. Anthony Laurita Morgantown
2. Tristan Harvey University
3. Nic Cheuvront Parkersburg
4. Jeremiah Parlock Cabell Midland
5. Seth Edwards University
6. Nick Salmons Cabell Midland
I'm probably looking forward to this race more than any other this weekend. Laurita has
a pair of 4:20 runs. Harvey has the best time in the field and two runs under 4:22.
Cheuvront has three that are 4:25 or better. Parlock has a pair that are 4:25 or better.
Edwards has a 4:22 run, but his 2nd best outing is 4:38. He could win it or he could
drop out of the placing. Salmons is the only other one to have cracked 4:25. 7 have
been under 4:27. 11 have been under 4:32. 14 have been under 4:35. This will be fun.
3200 M 1. Anthony Laurita Morgantown
2. Seth Edwards University
3. Shane Rigsby Musselman
4. Alex Minor University
5. Jake Henley Hurricane
6. Matt Wallace Elkins
Laurita has a 9:19 and a 9:20. No one else has been under 9:30. Edwards just has one
run under 9:30, and as the State Cross Country champion, he has to be considered a
threat. Rigsby is the only one in the field with three runs under 9:40 and has the 2nd
best top time in the field. Minor has a pair of runs under 9:40 and the 3rd best time
in the field. Henley has three runs under 9:50 and typically steps forward at the State
Meet. Wallace has a pair of runs under 9:42. 8 in the field have run under 9:42.
110 HH 1. Richard Cummings Wheeling Park
2. Will Walker George Washington
3. Micah Boles Parkersburg South
4. Erik Musgrave Parkersburg
5. Dezmon Bradshaw Huntington
6. Brady Hatch Morgantown
Cummings has the top time in the field by nearly 0.4 seconds. He's the only one to have
been under 15 seconds, and he's done it three times. Walker has the 2nd best top time,
and his top five times have all come in May. However, having already cranked a 400 and
a 300 Intermediates in the morning session, it's possible, he could drop. Boles has 5
runs under 15.45. Musgrave has the next best series of times. Bradshaw has the 4th best
top time in the field. Hatch gets slight nod for 6th. Only 7 in the field have been
under 16 seconds.
300 IH 1. Will Walker George Washington
2. Micah Boles Parkersburg South
3. Erik Musgrove Parkersburg
4. Jacob Kennedy Brooke
5. Richard Cummings Wheeling Park
6. Mason Tincher Greenbrier East
Walker has the top time int he field by over a second. He's the only one to have been
under 40 seconds, and he's done it five times. Boles' top time is over a second better
than anyone else's best. He has four runs under 41 seconds. No one else has been under
41 seconds. Musgrave has three runs under 41.40. Kennedy, Cummings, and Tincher have
very similar resumes. 11 in the field have been under 42 seconds with 9 of those having
been under 41.50.
4x100 M 1. Winfield
2. Jefferson
3. Hurricane
4. Martinsburg
5. Hedgesville
6. Huntington
This should be nice and close. The front four really could go in any order. For that
matter, 5 and 6 could step up as well. Winfield's lineup has the greatest potential in
my opinion. Jefferson has the best series. Hurricane has the best time in the field
and beat Winfield at the MSAC meet. Martinsburg just beat Jefferson at the Regional
meet and has four runs under 44 seconds. Hedgesville was close to Jefferson and Martinsburg
at the EPAC meet. Huntington ran 43.73 at the MSAC Meet and has the ability to add Ryan
McGuffin to the mix. They only qualified 15th of 16, though, so they'll have to try
to do their damage from lane 1 of the first heat.
4x200 M 1. Hurricane
2. Winfield
3. Jefferson
4. Martinsburg
5. Buckhannon-Upshur
6. Cabell Midland
Hurricane got beat at the Regional but has a pair of runs that are over 0.2 better than
anyone else's best. Winfield just beat Hurricane at the Regional, so obviously, this
could go either way. Jefferson has three runs under 1:31.2. Martinsburg, Buckhannon-Upshur,
and Cabell Midland are the only other ones to have been under 1:32.
4x400 M 1. Cabell Midland
2. Winfield
3. Buckhannon-Upshur
4. Parkersburg
5. Parkersburg South
6. Jefferson
I think Cabell Midland is the only one in the field that can drop a 3:25. Winfield
did just beat them narrowly at both the MSAC and the Regional, but I think Midland has
a little more potential. I see no reason why Buckhannon-Upshur can't go 3:28 or better.
Parkersburg only has the 7th best time, but I think there are one or two moves they can
make that bring them down. Parkersburg South has the 3rd best time in the field. Jefferson
has the 4th best time in the field. It's quite possible that all gix will go under 3:30.
I'm not sure anyone else can get there.
4x800 M 1. Cabell Midland
2. University
3. Hurricane
4. Morgantown
5. Capital
6. Hedgesville
I think Cabell is the only one that can run under 8:00. University won't be far off
that mark. Hurricane can move Alex Hughes onto their unit and probably drop down into
the 8:07 range. Morgantown could add Anthony Laurita to their lineup and possibly drop
down under 8:10. Capital has run the 3rd best time in the field, and I look for around
an 8:12. Hedgesville is the only other team to have been under 8:20.
Shuttle 1. Parkersburg South
2. Wheeling Park
3. Martinsburg
4. Huntington
5. Buckhannon-Upshur
6. Hurricane
Parkersburg South has the top time int he field and is the only one with 5 runs under
60 seoncds. Wheeling Park did just beat them at the Regional, albeit by just 0.01. Those
two are over 1.7 seconds ahead of the rest of the field. Martinsburg has a pair of runs
under 60. Huntington has the next best top time. Buckhannon-Upshur has a pair of runs
under 60. Hurricane has the next best top time. 7 in the field have been under 60.
H Jump 1. Evan DeGraef Parkersburg South
2. Christian Smith Winfield
3. Luke Nichols Nitro
4. Juwan Green Martinsburg
5. Kegan Davis Musselman
6. Brian Hughes Hurricane
DeGraef has the top jump in the field at 6'9.50. He's the only one in the field to have
a full series of 6'6 jumps. Smith has gone 6'8.50 and three jumps of 6'6 or better.
No one else has been higher than 6'2, and none of those have cleared 6'2 more than once.
Nichols was the only other one to clear 6'2 at his regional meet. Green and Davis
have identical series, but Green won the matchup at the Regional and at the EPAC meet.
Hughes has the other 6'2 jump but is the only one of the 6'2 group that didn't clear
6'0 at the Regional. Only 9 AAA jumpers have cleared 6'0 on the season.
P Vault 1. Tristan Slater Capital
2. Matthew Keaton Morgantown
3. Christian Smith Winfield
4. Zane Griffith Ripley
5. Nick Molina Cabell Midland
6. Aron Tackett Washington
Slater is clearly the big dog in the field. He's topped 16'0 on at least 5 occasions
and has a top vault of 16'7. He'll hopefully be taking a shot at the State Meet record
of 17'0 that has stood since 1995. Keaton is the only other one to have cleared 14'0.
Smith has a 13'6 vault and a pair of 13'0 vaults, with his two best vaults coming in the
last two meets. Griffith has a 13'6 vault and three 13'0 vaults, but hasn't hit 13'0
since April 21st. He was, however, the runner-up last year. Molina has a 13'6 vault
and a 13'3 vault and a 13'0 vault, but his two best vaults came in early April. Tackett
three 13'0 vaults. 8 in the field have cleared 13'0 on the season.
L Jump 1. Anthony Bibbs Parkersburg South
2. Ryan McGuffin Huntington
3. Jaylen Carson Martinsburg
4. Juwan Green Martinsburg
5. Kelshawn Grant Woodrow Wilson
6. Christian Smith Winfield
Bibbs is the only one in the field to have topped 22'0, and he's done it in each of
his last two meets. He was also the runner-up last year. McGuffin was five jumps
over 21'0. Carson has four 21'0 jumps as does Green. Grant topped 21'0 at his
Regional meet at Laidley. Smith has three jumps of 20'9 or better. 7 in the field
have jumped 21'0. 9 have been 20'7 or better. 12 have hit 20'0.
Shot 1. David Smith George Washington
2. Nick Peyatte George Washington
3. Cody Mitchell Point Pleasant
4. Hunter Ashley Huntington
5. Hunter Hicks Cabell Midland
6. Cody Rine Brooke
Smith gets the nod over Peyatte for having won two of the last three meets. Peyatte
does have the top throw in the field and the best series. They both have multiple throws
over 53'.0 Mitchell is the only other one in the field to have topped 50'0, and he's hit
51' twice. Ashley has the next best series with 4 throws of at least 48'. Hicks has a
better top throw than Ashley, but Ashley won the Regional matchup. Rine is the only
other one with a pair of 48' throws.
Discus 1. Tim Ferguson Parkersburg South
2. Hunter Hicks Cabell Midland
3. Theo Blackston Wheeling Park
4. Hunter Ashley Huntington
5. Nick Peyatte George Washington
6. Matt Berlo Martinsburg
Ferguson has the top throw in the field and is the only one with a pair of 160' throws.
Hicks is the only other one to hit 160'. His top 3 throws have come in his last three
meets. Blackson has five throws of 150' or more. Ashley has a pair of 150' throws.
Peyatte hsa topped 150' and his top three thows have come in his last three meets with
the distance growing each time. Berlo has three throws of 149'. 8 in the field have
topped 149'0 on the season.
