Class A Girls Individual Predictions
At this time, it doesn't look like I'll have time to provide the reasoning behind the picks. If
I'm able, I'll add that later. For now, here are the picks.
Individual Predictions
100 M 1. Andrea Chidester Williamstown
2. Sydney Rush Clay-Battelle
3. Brianna Kerekes Trinity
4. Elaysia Hill Bishop Donahue
5. Brooklyn Hammer Williamstown
6. Kelsey Zuspan Wahama
Chidester is the only one with a full series under 13 seconds, and she has the top time in the
field. Rush has three runs under 13 seconds. Kerekes has her three fastest times in her last
three meets. Hill can say the same. Hammer is consistently fast. Zuspan barely made the field
with a Regional run of 14.23. She's been banged up and may not even be able to compete. I was
afraid to leave her out, though, because she has three runs under 13 seconds, including one
on May 7th, and she won the event last year.
200 M 1. Andrea Chidester Williamstown
2. Brianna Kerekes Trinity
3. Alexandrine Ratnani Charleston Catholic
4. Madelin Gardner Williamstown
5. Sydney Rush Clay-Battelle
6. Rachel Taylor St. Marys
Chidester has a top time that is over half a second better than anyone else's best. Her # 5
time is better than anyone else's best. Kerekes is the only other competitor with multiple
runs under 27 seconds, and they've happened in her last three meets. Ratnanti is the only
other one to have been under 27 and was 2nd in the event last year. 3 have been under 27.
5 have been under 27.50. 8 have been under 28.
400 M 1. Andrea Chidester Williamstown
2. Madelin Gardner Williamstown
3. Brianna Kerekes Trinity
4. D'Andra Swiger Doddridge
5. Rachel Taylor St. Marys
6. Allie Robinson Williamstown
Chidester came to the event late in the season, but has been dominant. Her top time is over 1.2
seconds ahead of anyone else's best. Gardner is the only other one to have been under 61 seconds.
Kerekes and Swiger have been under 1:02. Swiger has the better top time, but Kerekes won the
Regional battle and has her best two times in her last two meets. 6 have been under 1:03. 8
have been under 1:04.
800 M 1. Maggie Drazba St. Marys
2. Ali Johnson St. Marys
3. Bethany Carroll Doddridge
4. Cami Mossor Williamstown
5. Beverly Knight St. Marys
6. Nele Frey Doddridge
Drazba should have an easy time of it. Her top time is almost 13 seconds ahead of the field.
Johnson has only run the open 800 once, and it was only her 2:38 regional run. However, I've
seen her split 2:29 in the 4x800, and she has excellent 400 speed. Carroll and Frey have the
only non-Drazba runs under 2:32. Carroll has the best series of the remaining field. Mossor
beat Carroll at the LKC Championships. Knight will not have run the 1600 in the morning, leaving
her a little more fresh for the 800. The top times of the 2nd through 7th ranked runners are
separates by just 2.1 seconds. All 7 have run under 2:34. 2 others have run under 2:36.
1600 M 1. Maggie Drazba St. Marys
2. Bethany Carroll Doddridge
3. Nele Frey Doddridge
4. Ashley Cassidy Tucker
5. Sarah Smith Cameron
6. Jenny Brewer St. Marys
Drazba again dominates. Her WV All-Time Best 4:51.88 puts her 47 seconds ahead of the field.
2nd through 7th are separated by just 3.5 seconds in what should be a very close race. Carroll
has a good history in the 1600 and won her regional. Frey actually has a better series and top
time than Carroll, but Carroll has beaten Frey more than the other way around. Cassidy has a pair
of runs under 5:45 and has a better top time than Carroll or Frey. Smith actually has the 2nd
best top time in the field, but that's her only run under 5:48. Brewer edges Cami Mossor for
6th as she has a better serie. 5 have been under 5:40. 7 have been under 5:42. 8 have been
under 5:45.
3200 M 1. Maggie Drazba St. Marys
2. Jenny Brewer St. Marys
3. Ashley Cassidy Tucker
4. Sarah Smith Cameron
5. Nele Frey Doddridge
6. Bethany Carroll Doddridge
Drazba also owns a WV All-Time best in this as well with her 10:27.42 run at the LKC Championships.
In that meet, she lapped everyone, including 2nd place pick Jenny Brewer. Brewer has the 2nd
best top time and a slightly better series than Cassidy. Cassidy has a better series than Smith.
Frey and Carroll have better series than Smith, but Smith just beat them at the Regional. Carroll
has a better top time than Frey, but Frey has beaten Carroll more often than the other way around.
100 HH 1. Sarah Ferguson Doddridge
2. Kylie Hammer Williamstown
3. Lincoln Postlewaite Williamstown
4. Emily Bucon Wheeling Central
5. Taylor Parsons Paden City
6. Emily Moore Buffalo
Ferguson is the only one to have been under 16 seconds, and she's done it 4 times. She's also
the defending champion. Hammer has a better series than Postlewaite, though Postlewaite has
the better top time. Bucon is the only other one to have been under 16.50. Parsons and Moore
are the only others to have been under 17.
300 LH 1. D'Andra Swiger Doddridge
2. Ali Johnson St. Marys
3. Sarah Ferguson Doddridge
4. Taylor Parsons Paden City
5. Katie Clevenger Tucker
6. Haley Hinchman Richwood
Swiger has the top time in the field and has 5 runs that are at least as good as anyone else's
best. Johnson has a pair of runs under 48 seconds. Ferguson has three runs under 49 seconds.
Parsons is the only other competitor with multiple runs under 50 seconds. 8 have been under 51.
4x100 M 1. Williamstown
2. Clay-Battelle
3. Charleston Catholic
4. Wheeling Central
5. St. Marys
6. Madonna
Williamstown has great depth. They have the top time in the field by well over a second. They
may not be running that unit fo rthis meet, but their Regional unit is still better than anyone
else by over 0.4 seconds. Clay-Battelle has a nice young group, and they've been under 53 three
times. Charleston Catholic has a pair of runs under 54. Wheeling Central has actually gone
under 53, and could move up.
4x200 M 1. Williamstown
2. Clay-Battelle
3. Charleston Catholic
4. Tucker
5. Wheeling Central
6. Madonna
Another Williamstown show. Their best unit is over 5 seconds ahead of the field. Their Regional
time of 1:52.13 could end up with them getting beaten, though. Clay-Battelle will make a run of
it. Charleston Catholic, Tucker, and Wheeling Central have been under 1:54.
4x400 M 1. Williamstown
2. St. Marys
3. Clay-Battelle
4. Doddridge
5. Wheeling Central
6. Charleston Catholic
Even without Chidester, Williamstown could turn a 4:12, and that will probably be enough. I think
St. Marys can hit 4:16 or so. I show Doddridge and Clay-Battelle each at 4:21, but since
Clay-Battelle beat Doddridge at the Regional, I'm giving them the nod. Wheeling Central can give
those two a run, and Charleston Catholic isn't out of the mix either. I show all four teams
between 4:21 and 4:23.
4x800 M 1. St. Marys
2. Williamstown
3. Charleston Catholic
4. Trinity
5. Tucker
6. Gilmer
St. Marys is the only team that can run under 10:00. They could take a chance and pull Drazba
from this unit and add her to the 4x400 to try to win that, but that could leave them susceptible
here. Williamstown can run under 10:15, and taking off Drazba could cost them around 20 seconds.
Trinity has been faster but I think Charleston Catholic has more upward potential. Tucker
and Gilmer are the only other teams to have gone under 11:00, and I don't really see anyone else
doing it.
Shuttle 1. Williamstown
2. Wheeling Central
3. Tucker
4. Paden City
5. Doddridge
6. Buffalo
Williamstown is a substantial favorite in this one. They have five runs better than anyone else's
best, and the top time is best by almost 2 seconds. Wheeling Central has three runs under 1:09.
Tucker has three runs under 1:10. No one else has been under 1:11. Doddridge could move Ferguson
from the 4x400 to the Shuttles and possibly give Tucker a run.
H Jump 1. Megan Steele Williamstown
2. D'Andra Swiger Doddridge
3. Jamie Hanlin Union
4. Abigale Buchan Valley Fayette
5. Olivia Miller Tucker
6. Taylor Pickens St. Marys
Steele is the only one with multiple clearances of 5'4, and she has 3 of them. Swiger, however,
has the top jump in the field with her Regional leap of 5'5 1/4. Hanlin has a pair of 5'2 leaps
and another 5'0 jump. Buchan has more clearances of 5'0 than Miller, but Miller has cleared
5'2 twice. I gave the edge to Buchan because her 5'2 did happen at the Laidley venue. Pickens
is the only other jumper with a full series of 4'10 or better jumps. 7 have cleared 5'0.
P Vault 1. Lincoln Postlewaite Williamstown
2. Liz Flowers Williamstown
3. Emily Moore Buffalo
4. McKenzie Smith Williamstown
5. Catherine Casingal Charleston Catholic
6. Kelsie Marple Doddridge
Postlewaite cleared 11'1 at her Regional Meet. She has four vaults of 10' or better. Flowers is
the only other vaulter over 10'. Moore is the only other one with a 9'0 vault, and she has 3.
Smith has a full series of 8'6. Casingal has four 8'0 vaults, and Marple has three. 8 in total
have cleared 8'0.
L Jump 1. Sarah Ferguson Doddridge
2. D'Andra Swiger Doddridge
3. Lincoln Postlewaite Williamstown
4. Kaitlyn Conner Madonna
5. Dani Hayes Valley Wetzel
6. Hannah Brown Richwood
Ferguson, Swiger, and Postlewaite are the only ones with multiple 16'0 jumps. Ferguson has four
16' jumps. The other two have a pair with Swiger's being a little better than Postlewaite's.
Conner and Hayes did just beat Swiger at the Regional Meet, and both have gone 16'. 5 have jumped
16'. 8 have jumped 15'.
Shot 1. Tiffany Jones Union
2. Hunter House Williamstown
3. Courtney Taylor Williamstown
4. Audra Clark St. Marys
5. Taylor Pavan Madonna
6. Kendra Walker St. Marys
Jones has the only 34' throws in the field, and she has 3 of them. House is the only other one
with multiple 32' throws, and she has a full 5 throw series of them. Taylor has three 31'
throws. Clark has three 30' throws and a 32' top throw. Walker has the 4th best top throw
in the field. 4 have thrown 32. 9 have thrown 31. 12 have thrown 30.
Discus 1. Audra Clark St. Marys
2. Taylor Pavan Madonna
3. Kimber Odle Doddridge
4. Alyana Kachmarek Tucker
5. Tori Stevens Doddridge
6. Melissa Carr Tucker
Clark is the only one to have topped 100' more than once. She has the top throw in the field
and three 100' throws. Pavan had the best Regional throw and has three over 95'. Odle has
three over 97'. Kachamarek topped 100', but her 2nd best throw is 92'. Stevens and Carr
have a pair of throws over 90. 10 in the field have thrown 90'.
