The state meet predictions are based on results have gathered throughout the season, head-to-head competitions, regional results, perceived potential, trends and (of course) gut feeling.
AAA Boys Team Predictions 1. Hedgesville 74 2. Jefferson 68 3. Martinsburg 41 4. Cabell Midland 37 5. Huntington 35 5. Hurricane 35 7. Wheeling Park 33 8. George Washington 28 9. Elkins 26 10. Bridgeport 22 10. Fairmont Senior 22 12. South Charleston 21 13. Riverside 20 14. Robert C. Byrd 14 14. Winfield 14 16. John Marshall 13 17. St. Albans 12 18. Parkersburg South 11 19. Buckhannon-Upshur 6 19. Morgantown 6 21. Parkersburg 5 21. Princeton 5 23. Greenbrier East 4 24. Washington 3 25. Lewis 2 26. Brooke 1 This should be a two team race. I have Hedgesville winning by 6 over Jefferson. However, that's with Hedgesville getting 2-3-4 in the Long Jump. The odds of all three jumpers having a good day is probably pretty slim, and that could hurt. However, they could pick up some extra points from Chris Deaner, who I only have at 5th in the 110HH. Hedgesville will rely heavily on Field Events, while Jefferson will be leaning on Dante Price and Brandon Doughty. The battle for 3rd is much tighter with 3rd through 7th separated by just 8 points.
AAA Girls Team Predictions 1. Buckhannon-Upshur 77 2. Jefferson 70 3. Hurricane 63 4. Morgantown 40 5. Fairmont Senior 37 6. Woodrow Wilson 36 7. Elkins 32 8. John Marshall 31 9. Parkersburg 30 9. Wheeling Park 30 11. Washington 28 12. Martinsburg 11 12. Musselman 11 14. Brooke 10 14. Parkersburg South 10 16. Lewis 9 17. Preston 8 17. Spring Valley 8 19. University 6 20. Cabell Midland 4 21. Ripley 3 22. George Washington 2 23. St. Albans 1 23. Winfield 1 This is a three team race. Buckhannon-Upshur and Jefferson both have places where they could either gain or lose points. Hurricane likely needs both teams to slip up as they're close to being maxed out. They have 58 points from 1st or 2nd place picks. Buckhannon-Upshur will need good days from their Field Event brigade and Emily Godwin. Jefferson needs Taylor Brown and their distance group to come through. Things tighten up dramatically after these three teams. 4th through 11th are separated by just 12 points, so there could be a lot of movement.
AA Boys Team Predictions 1. Ritchie 66 2. Keyser 54 3. Magnolia 53 4. Liberty Harrison 48 5. Tyler Consolidated 43 6. Philip Barbour 36 7. Point Pleasant 35 7. Weir 35 9. Oak Glen 28 9. Scott 28 9. Sherman 28 12. Grafton 27 13. Berkeley Springs 26 14. Greenbrier West 9 14. Webster 9 16. Braxton 8 17. Lincoln 6 17. Westside 6 19. Ravenswood 4 20. Roane 3 20. PikeView 3 22. Poca 2 23. Liberty Raleigh 1 I have Ritchie winning by 13, but Keyser and Magnolia are within reach. Keyser has several areas where they can pick up a few points. Ritchie has some very solid points in the Field where they're almost assured of wins in the Shot Put, Discus, and Pole Vault. Their relays, middle distance, and hurdlers will determine their weekend. Keyser likely has more upward mobility than Magnolia.
AA Girls Team Predictions 1. Oak Hill 85 2. Weir 54 3. Frankfort 47 4. Philip Barbour 35 5. Keyser 33 6. Ritchie 31 7. Tyler Consolidated 28 8. Lincoln 24 9. Magnolia 21 10. Liberty Harrison 18 10. PikeView 18 12. Berkeley Springs 17 13. Herbert Hoover 16 14. Grafton 15 14. Poca 15 16. Liberty Raleigh 14 16. Sherman 14 16. Summers 14 19. Oak Glen 12 19. Point Pleasant 12 21. Wayne 10 22. Independence 9 22. Shady Spring 9 24. Roane 4 25. Braxton 2 26. Ravenswood 1 As with last season, Oak Hill is a very heavy favorite. They'd have to have a lot of things go wrong for them to not win. Weir and Frankfort should battle for 2nd place. Both could pick up some points, but both could lose some in places as well. 4th through 7th are separated by just 7 points, so there could be a lot of movement in that area.
A Boys Team Predictions 1. St. Marys 87 2. Williamstown 78 3. Richwood 60 4. Charleston Catholic 56 5. Wheeling Central 45 6. Doddridge 43 7. Pocahontas 42 8. East Hardy 19 9. Valley Wetzel 18 9. Gilmer 18 11. Bishop Donahue 16 12. Buffalo 15 13. Paden City 14 14. Mount Hope 11 14. Clay-Battelle 11 16. Madonna 10 16. South Harrison 10 18. Tucker 2 19. Cameron 1 19. Meadow Bridge 1 19. Valley Fayette 1 This will be a two-team battle between St. Marys and Williamstown. Both have areas in which they could gain or lose points. Both teams would have to collapse in order for someone else to pull off the win. 3rd through 7th are separated by 18 points, but there's enough room for movement for any of those teams to take the 3rd spot. Most likely, it will be Richwood and Charleston Catholic fighting for 3rd and Wheeling Central, Doddridge, and Pocahontas fighting for 5th.
A Girls Team Predictions 1. St. Marys 143 2. Williamstown 98 3. Doddridge 60 4. Charleston Catholic 58 5. South Harrison 36 6. Bishop Donahue 32 7. Paden City 26 8. East Hardy 23 9. Wheeling Central 17 10. Madonna 16 11. Williamson 12 12. Clay-Battelle 8 13. Gilmer 6 13. Mount Hope 6 15. Richwood 5 16. Union 4 16. Valley Wetzel 4 18. Wirt 2 19. Buffalo 1 19. Moorefield 1 St. Marys appears to again be a very solid favorite. They may not be completely healthy, but they have a large margin for error. Williamstown looks to have a very solid hold on 2nd. Doddridge and Charleston Catholic should fight it out for 3rd.
