The state meet predictions are based on results have gathered throughout the season, head-to-head competitions, regional results, perceived potential, trends and (of course) gut feeling.
AAA Boys Team Predictions 1. Hedgesville 79 2. Jefferson 70 3. Wheeling Park 43 4. George Washington 39 5. Winfield 33 6. St. Albans 32 7. Cabell Midland 31 8. North Marion 28 8. Riverside 28 10. Huntington 24 10. Martinsburg 24 12. South Charleston 23 13. Preston 17 13. University 17 15. Parkersburg 16 16. Fairmont Senior 14 17. Bridgeport 9 18. Buckhannon-Upshur 7 18. Morgantown 7 20. Brooke 4 20. East Fairmont 4 22. Capital 2 22. Elkins 2 22. John Marshall 2 22. Robert C. Byrd 2 26. Hurricane 1 This is pretty much a two team race...and Eastern Panhandle showdown. I have Hedgesville winning by 9. Both teams have some critical events. I have Jefferson scoring 18 in the Long Jump. I have Hedgesville with 14 in the High Jump. These are events that can be very fickle. Relays will also play a major role. There's a large gap after these two. Anyone in the top 7 could get 3rd on the right day. Wheeling Park looks to have a slight edge for the 3rd position. Cabell Midland is in 7th, but there are numerous events where they could increase by a place or two.
AAA Girls Team Predictions 1. Jefferson 68 2. Hurricane 66 3. Woodrow Wilson 34 4. Cabell Midland 32 5. Buckhannon-Upshur 30 6. Elkins 28 7. Wheeling Park 27 8. Preston 26 9. Spring Valley 22 10. Martinsburg 21 10. Parkersburg 21 12. Lewis County 20 13. Washington 18 14. University 17 15. Parkersburg South 14 16. John Marshall 13 16. Morgantown 13 16. North Marion 13 19. Fairmont Senior 12 19. Hedgesville 12 19. Winfield 12 22. Capital 10 23. Bridgeport 8 23. Nicholas County 8 25. Ripley 6 26. Greenbrier East 4 27. South Charleston 2 28. Huntington 1 Jefferson and Hurricane should have a very tight race for the title. I only have them separated by two points. Both have several top two predictions that could cost them if something goes awry. There aren't a lot of areas where the two will be going head-to-head where the outcome isn't heavily favored for one direction or the other, so both teams will be looking for help from other teams. The battle for 3rd is tight as only 8 points separates 3rd through 8th.
AA Boys Team Predictions 1. Ravenswood 96 2. Oak Glen 90 3. Tyler Consolidated 62 4. Keyser 59 5. Ritchie County 38 6. Point Pleasant 37 7. Philip Barbour 26 8. Weir 23 9. Webster 21 10. Berkeley Springs 19 10. Grafton 19 12. Chapmanville 16 13. Shady Spring 12 14. Magnolia 9 15. Roane 8 16. Sherman 7 17. James Monroe 6 18. Liberty Harrison 2 18. Lincoln 2 18. Scott 2 21. Herbert Hoover 1 21. Independence 1 21. PikeView 1 21. Poca 1 This is probably just a matchup between Ravenswood and Oak Glen. Ravenswood must perform in the distance events. Oak Glen must come through in the relays. There are several places where the two teams will square off with the outcome not a foregone conclusion: 400, 800, Long Jump, and High Jump are some of these areas. The placement in those events could determine the meet. Tyler Consolidated and Keyser will have to hope the other two falter to get into the mix.
AA Girls Team Predictions 1. Oak Hill 92 2. Philip Barbour 58 3. Roane County 52 4. Weir 46 5. Shady Spring 43 6. Oak Glen 38 6. Ritchie County 38 8. Frankfort 31 9. Tyler Consolidated 22 10. Sherman 21 11. Berkeley Springs 18 12. Sissonville 17 13. Grafton 16 14. Keyser 13 15. Poca 12 16. Summers County 10 17. Point Pleasant 8 18. Liberty Harrison 7 19. Lincoln 4 19. PikeView 4 21. Braxton County 2 21. Herbert Hoover 2 21. Independence 2 21. Magnolia 2 Oak Hill is a very heavy favorite. They'd have to have a lot of things go wrong for them not to win. Philip Barbour and Roane should battle for 2nd. The next few places are up for grads. Weir, Shady Spring, Oak Glen, and Ritchie will vie for spots in the top five.
A Boys Team Predictions 1. Wheeling Central 95 2. Doddridge County 83 3. Williamstown 67 4. Pocahontas 47 5. St. Marys 44 6. Bishop Donahue 41 7. Buffalo 39 8. Charleston Catholic 38 9. Richwood 21 10. Moorefield 20 11. Mount Hope 14 12. Valley Wetzel 11 13. Gilmer County 8 13. Hannan 8 15. Clay-Battelle 5 15. South Harrison 5 17. East Hardy 4 18. Madonna 3 19. Cameron 2 19. Tygarts Valley 2 21. Meadow Bridge 1 Wheeling Central comes in as the favorite. They do need Nick Hurley to be available to be at top strenght. The 4x100 and 4x200 don't have a lot of room for error. They have some very solid points that aren't likely to drop. Doddridge probably has more room for upward movement in their places, but they'll have to come through in several places. Williamstown could sneak up and take 2nd, but I don't think they can pull off the win. Wheeling Central and Doddridge would have to both have bad meets. Pocahontas and St. Marys will likely battler for fourth.
A Girls Team Predictions 1. St. Marys 159 2. Williamstown 74 3. Charleston Catholic 49 4. Wheeling Central 48 5. Doddridge 30 6. Bishop Donahue 28 6. Paden City 28 8. East Hardy 23 9. Mount Hope 20 9. South Harrison 20 11. Gilmer 19 12. Moorefield 16 13. Union 14 14. Williamson 7 15. Madonna 6 15. Meadow Bridge 6 17. Pocahontas 4 18. Cameron 2 18. Valley Wetzel 2 20. Clay-Battelle 1 20. Tygarts Valley 1 20. Valley Fayette 1 Let's be realistic. If the bus driver for St. Marys can find Laidley Field, they will win this meet. I have St. Marys with four of the top five High Point Scoreres. How do you compete with that? Williamstown appears to have a very solid hold on 2nd. Charleston Catholic and Wheeling Central should battle for 3rd. Doddridge, Bishop Donahue, and Paden City should battle for 5th.
