Dear Coaches: Men/Women

This is your invitation to participate in the 2005 Charleston Gazette Relays, April 29th & 30th at Laidley Field, Charleston, WV, also the location of the West Virginia State Track Meet. There is no entry fee. Your only cost is for any other expense of

participating.

A time schedule, scratch sheet, pole vault certification sheet and entry forms with qualifying standards are enclosed for both boys and girls. As you will notice, some formats have changed. However, we will follow the West Virginia State Meet schedule of events as closely as possible with some exceptions. Please note NF and WVSSAC rule changes. The Shuttle Hurdle Relay for girls will be 102.5 meter: (S) & (F) 13.0 meters; (B) hurdles 8.5 meters, height 30". Be sure your pole vaulters use the proper pole and you complete the vaulter's form. This will be enforced. WVSSAC and NF rules will apply. There will be a Jury of Appeals. We suggest you make copies of your forms upon completing them and bring them with you. As soon as possible, please send your eligibility sheet to the meet director.

Medals will be given to the top six finishers in each event and plaques to the top three teams in each division, both boys and girls,' as well as the high point winners in each division. The divisions are AAA, AA & A. Please be sure and indicate your division. *Note: Out-of-state teams please indicate total number of boys and girls enrolled in grades 10-12. (Class AAA 626 and above, Class AA 625 - 338, Class A 337 and below) It would be most helpful to us if you would send Jim Crawford your eligibility sheets as soon as possible. We will enter them into the computer and assign them a number. Entries must be limited to two (2) contestants per event. No additions or changes will be allowed. Scratches only.

We will have (2) two non-scoring fun events. The 4 x 100m King (200 lbs. and over) and Queen Relays. Medals will be given for the top three finishers.

Coaches meeting will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 29th under the South Stands next to the Field Manager's office. Please have your scratch sheets completed in order that we may get them quickly to the computer for seeding purposes. You may email your scratches before 11:00 a.m. on Friday. E-mail them to mcavende(ii),access. k12. wv. us Again, make a copy for yourself.

Contestants must meet or better the qualifying standards specified as listed on the entry form. No distances or heights will be measured below the specified standard. In the 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs and relays, the gun will befzred at the end of the qualifying standard and all runners remaining on the track at the firing are to exit the track at that point.

Please advise your contestants they are not allowed to wear spikes on the football field or in the stands. This could lead to disqualification from the meet. When they are not competing, all competitors must remain in the North Stands. (Interstate side) Only contestants in uniform, officials and managers are allowed on the track or field. Managers must have some identification signed by the head coach to be allowed onto Laidley Field or they will be required to pay. We understand this has been a problem in the past. Time limits will be observed in the field events.

* Coaches Note: Please print the names clearlv on the entrv form: Last name first, followed bv the first name. Be accurate in submittim! times, heiJ!hts and distances. We know pretty well what your kids do as we look at tri-state newspapers regularly. Therefore, be honest with yourself and the athlete. Don't do them a disservice. **Please do not leave spaces blank or write "fast or slow" otherwise we may throw them out.

Again, some Laidley Field rules: all contestants are to be in the North Stands, No spikes on the football field or in the stands. Tents are to be put up beyond the blue railings and east of the 40-yard line. Only Tennis ball halves will be allowed as markers

for exchange zones. No tape or caulk. No alcohol, tobacco, glass containers, and gum are allowed on Laidley Field premises. Parking will be on the outer two adjacent lots to Laidley Field; only teams with school buses or team vans will be allowed inside Laidley Field. As stated previously WVSSAC, NF and Laidley Field rules will apply. This is a sanctioned meet.
