100 M 1. Shalanda Hall Clay-Battelle
2. Jasmine Cotton Fayetteville
3. Zantana Murray Richwood
4. Madeline Brumfield Charleston Catholic
5. Erica Williams Gilmer
6. Meghan Coby Moorefield
Cotton is the top returning finisher, but Hall seems much more explosive
this year than she was last year. Murray is always strong. Brumfield
has come along very strong late in the year. Williams was 4th in the State
last year and has started to show that form again this year. Coby is
always a solid performer. Leah Comis and Tessa Joseph are definitely
in the hunt for a place.
200 M 1. Zantana Murray Richwood
2. Jasmine Cotton Fayetteville
3. Shalanda Hall Clay-Battelle
4. Eric Williams Gilmer
5. Leah Comis Madonna
6. Madeline Brumfield Charleston Catholic
This should be a great race between the top 3. Murray has the top time
and the best series. Cotton is just a tick behind her across the board.
Hall finished 3rd in the event last year, beating Cotton in the process.
Williams, as in the 100, is finally starting to show the form that saw
her take 2nd in the event last year. Comis has really come on in the last
two meets. Brumfield has put together a very solid series of times of
late and knocked nearly 0.3 off her best time at the regional meet.
Ashley Morgan and Annie Wenck also look to be factors.
400 M 1. Zantana Murray Richwood
2. Jasmine Cotton Fayetteville
3. Annie Wenck South Harrison
4. Kylee Boring Doddridge
5. Brianna Lowther Gilmer
6. Megan Kelley Doddridge
Murray and Cotton finished in a dead heat at the regional, and that finish
could be duplicated at the State Meet. Murray has a better top time and
a better series of times, so she gets the nod. Wenck is the only other
runner to have gone under 1:02 and looked good in winning her regional
meet. Boring is the only other runner to have gone under 1:03 and has 4
times faster than the next competitor's best showing. Lowther has the
next best series of times. Kelley had an excellent regional showing,
knocking over a second off her time. Watch out for Tina Noronha who
placed 3rd in the event last year and will be in the hot heat. Lauren
Bauer is also a threat, but will have to do it out of heat 1.
800 M 1. Jennie Spencer Doddridge
2. Anna Fragale Charleston Catholic
3. Julia McGinley Wheeling Central
4. Lauren Bauer Wheeling Central
5. Kim Abcouwer Charleston Catholic
6. Kylee Boring Doddridge
Spencer has only run the open 800 twice, but both times were faster than
anyone else has gone, plus she's the defending champion. Fragale has only
run the open on 3 occasions, but each was 2:28.3 or better. McGinley
snared 3rd last year and has had her top two performances in her two most
recent meets. Bauer is one of only 3 to have gone under 2:30 this year.
Abcouwer has only run the open twice, but each has been a 2:33. Boring
has a 2:31 to her credit, but her second best time is a 2:35. Also in the
mix could be Clara Grandt, Stephanie Caruso, Caitlin Miller, and Heidi Webb.
1600 M 1. Stephanie Caruso Wheeling Central
2. Clara Grandt Doddridge
3. Kim Abcouwer Charleston Catholic
4. Jessica Berry Williamstown
5. Caitlin Miller Charleston Catholic
6. Megan Cook Wheeling Central
Caruso has 4 clockings better than anyone else has run. Her top time is
nearly 14 seconds faster than anyone else in the field. Grandt has
battled injury throughout the season but looks to be a solid 2nd. The
next three are all within 0.72 of each other. Abcouwer was given the top
nod for having the best series. Berry was taken over Miller due to her
recent drops in time. Miller has the best time of the three and could
easily surpass both. Cook has the next best top time and the next best
series. Other possibilities are Gina Majestro, Kallen Weaver, and
Elizabeth Hyde.
3200 M 1. Clara Grandt Doddridge
2. Kallen Weaver Wheeling Central
3. Stephanie Caruso Wheeling Central
4. Elizabeth Hyde Doddridge
5. Heidi Webb Williamstown
6. Emily Coffman Doddridge
Unlike last year, when Grandt was nearly a minute faster than her competitor's
coming in, injury has limited her performance and she has only a 10 second
cushion. She's still the favorite coming in as her times have been dropping.
Weaver has been very steady and has a shot to go under 12:00. Caruso is
a bit of a wildcard. The regional meet is her only turn in the event, and
she simply ran to qualify. Based on her mile time and the fact that she
finished 6th in the State Cross Country Meet means that she is a threat to
win the event. Hyde has gone faster than Caruso and has at least 5 showings
under 13:00. Webb, like Caruso has only run the event once and ran simply
to qualify. Coffman has gone faster than Webb but has also battled injury.
You cannot rule out Ashley Wolfe, Lindsey Payne, Megan Russell, or Rachel
Ramezan.
100 HH 1. Bethany Kerwood Wheeling Central
2. Jennifer Bowers Paden City
3. Kristin Strawn Wheeling Central
4. Mica Seman Wirt
5. Olivia Lambert South Harrison
6. Lark Butler Gilmer
Kerwood is the clear favorite having at least 5 showings better than
anyone else's top showing. Bowers has really come on in the event late
in the season. Strawn beat Bowers at the conference meet and could
conceivably do so again. Things get very tight after this. Seman has
the best series of the remaining competitors. Lambert has run strong
late in the season. Butler has the next best series. You also must
consider Logan Coffield, Shantel Pugliese, and Nicole Riggleman.
300 LH 1. Katie Kern Charleston Catholic
2. Jennifer Bowers Paden City
3. Olivia Lambert South Harrison
4. Lark Butler Gilmer
5. Kristin Strawn Wheeling Central
6. Mica Seman Wirt
Kern is the two-time defending champion and has three times better than
anyone else's best. Bowers is the only other competitor with multiple
sub-50 clockings. Lambers has been steadily chopping down her time,
going under 50 for the first time at the regional meet. Butler's top
two times have come in her last two meets. Strawn get the nod over
Seman for 5th, but that could go either way. Brianna Lowther could be
in the mix but will have run the 400 earlier in the morning. An additional
4 have legitimate shots to place, including Bethany Kerwood who placed
4th in the event last year.
4x100 M 1. Wheeling Central
2. Charleston Catholic
3. Madonna
4. Williamstown
5. Moorefield
6. Doddridge
Wheeling Central is out front in this event. Their top time is a full
second ahead of the rest of the field. Charleston Catholic has the next
best series with at least 5 showings under 55 seconds. Madonna showed
a sub-54 time at the OVAC's. Williamstown has the next best series.
Moorefield finished behind Doddridge at the regional but badly blew one
of their handoffs. They could end up in the hunt for 3rd. Paden City,
Clay-Battelle, and Mercer Christian could also figure in the scoring.
4x200 M 1. Wheeling Central
2. Charleston Catholic
3. Doddridge
4. Moorefield
5. Mercer Christian
6. St. Marys
Wheeling Central is ahead of the field here as well, but Charleston Catholic
isn't far off. Those two teams appear to be well ahead of everyone else.
Doddridge looks to have the next best unit with a pair of clockings faster
than anyone else's best. Moorefield stepped forward at their regional.
Mercer Christian put together a solid relay at their regional. St. Marys,
Madonna, South Harrison, and Williamstown will fight it out for the
remaining spot.
4x400 M 1. Doddridge
2. Charleston Catholic
3. Gilmer
4. Wheeling Central
5. Williamstown
6. Richwood
Doddridge could conceivably run as low as 4:13 with their strongest unit.
Charleston Catholic could add Katie Kern to their unit and drop their
time dramatically. Gilmer can accomplish a similar feat by adding
Erica Williams to the fold. Wheeling Central has a solid unit, and
Williamstown could go under 4:30. Richwood is easily the next best unit.
4x800 M 1. Wheeling Central
2. Doddridge
3. Charleston Catholic
4. Williamstown
5. Richwood
6. St. Marys
Wheeling Central ran a 10:03 in mid-April, which means they're definitely
a threat to go under 10:00. Doddridge has a shot to get in that range
as well. Charleston Catholic also has an excellent team, so no one in
this group can afford to be off. Williamstown looks to be solidly in 4th.
Richwood appears to have the edge over St. Marys for 5th with Greenbrier
West also in the mix.
Shuttle 1. Wheeling Central
2. South Harrison
3. Williamstown
4. Paden City
5. Gilmer
6. Doddridge
Wheeling Central and South Harrison should have an excellent battle.
Both have run under 1:09. South Harrison did it at the regional meet
and could take the event. Williamstown has run in the 1:09's and will
be ready to pounce if either team should falter. No other team has run
under 1:11.7. Paden City has been consistenly fast late in the season.
Gilmer knocked over a second off their time at the regional meet.
Doddridge actually has the 4th best time, but hasn't been there
consistently and didn't have a particularly good regional showing.
Madonna could also figure in the scoring.
L Jump 1. Jasmine Cotton Fayetteville
2. Marissa Haddix South Harrison
3. Erica Williams Gilmer
4. Kelsey Oldfield St. Marys
5. Shantel Pugliese Williamstown
6. Brooke Wilson St. Marys
Cotton has three jumps further than anyone else's best. Haddix has the
next best series. Williams is probably the most consistent of the bunch
and placed 3rd in the event last year. Oldfield is the only other
jumper with three 15' jumps. Pugliese has a pair of 15' jumps. Wilson
has a 15' jump to her credit and placed last year. Jessie Pifer has
also exceeded 15' this year and could easily fit into the scoring.
H Jump 1. Niki Zickefoose Doddridge
2. Monica Wamsley Tygarts Valley
3. Jennie Spencer Doddridge
4. Nikki Costa Valley Fayette
5. Lexi Ferguson Madonna
6. Autumn Roark Mercer Christian
Zickefoose has a trio of 5'2 jumps and at least five jumps of 5'. Wamsley
is the only other jumper with multiple 5' jumps. Spencer has a 5'2 jump
to her credit but has no other 5'0 jumps. Costa has multiple 4'10
showings and placed last year. Ferguson has a 4'9 jump and the next best
series. Roark has a pair of 4'8 jumps with both coming in her last two
meets.
Shot 1. Alicia Cayton Doddridge
2. Kayla Todd Doddridge
3. Katelyn Wilkins East Hardy
4. Amanda Napolitani Doddridge
5. Amanda Kerns St. Marys
6. Mary Beth Peden Charleston Catholic
Cayton could set a new meet record. She's the only thrower in any class
to have topped 40' this year. Todd is over 3' ahead of the next competitor.
Wilkins has the next best toss and was a 35' thrower last year. Napolitani
has the next best series. Kerns is the only other thrower to exceed 33'.
Peden has the next best series. Caitlin Bamberger is the most likely to
slip in for a place.
Discus 1. Amanda Napolitani Doddridge
2. Laura Ankrom Williamstown
3. Mary Beth Peden Charleston Catholic
4. Kayla Todd Doddridge
5. Amanda Kerns St. Marys
6. Joanna Dempsey South Harrison
Napolitani has 4 throws better than anyone else's best and the best regional
toss of the group. Ankrom has improved steadily and has four throws over
100' and placed 4th last year. Peden has a paid of 100' throws including
her regional toss. Todd has the next best series with at least 5 throws
over 95'. Kerns has the next best series, while Dempsey has the next best
top throw.
P Vault 1. Kendall Queen Williamstown
2. Kate Billups Williamstown
3. Susanne Pinard Doddridge
4. Emily Lewis Buffalo
5. Sami Postelwaite Williamstown
6. Logan Coffield Bishop Donahue
Queen is the only vaulter to go higher than 8'6 this year, and she's gone
over 10' at least 5 times, including an 11' vault. Billups and Pinard
each have 3 vaults of 8'6, but Billups has done in both her last two
meets, while Pinard has not. Lewis and Postelwaite each have four 8'
vaults to their credit. Lewis has a better 5th vault to give her the
nod. Coffield is the only other vaulter with an 8' vault.
