100 M 1. Shardal Twyman Jefferson
2. Denise Gregory Huntington
3. Chelsea Carrier Buckhannon Upshur
4. Terryn Webb Woodrow Wilson
5. Sarah McKinney Woodrow Wilson
6. Nicole Young South Charleston
Defending Champ Twyman could take a run at the record. Gregory took 2nd
last year but will have competition from frosh Carrier and the duo from
Woodrow Wilson. Mckinney took 3rd last year and could easily move up.
Young and Jamie Kocher of Brooker are the only other runners to break 13
twice this year. Edge to Young on her home track. Jerikka Johnson of
Capital took 5th last year and could play a role again and Banks of Wheeling
Park and Jarvis of Hampshire have also gone under 13.
200 M 1. Shardal Twyman Jefferson
2. Chelsea Carrier Buckhannon Upshur
3. Denise Gregory Huntington
4. Shay Law Woodrow Wilson
5. Randi Cary Capital
6. Nicole DeStefano Brooke
Twyman seems to be way ahead of the field in defense of her title. Carrier
had an outstanding region and has a very good series of times this year.
Gregory was 2nd last year and should be right with Carrier and Law (6th in
2003) in tight battle. Cary was 4th last year and could easily move up.
DeStefano has 6 times under 27 (only Twyman has more) and has been very
consistent. Laurel Bobo placed 5th last year and could easily place that
high again.
400 M 1. Ashley Blaney Woodrow Wilson
2. Chelsea Carrier Buckhannon Upshur
3. Kati Hoeck Martinsburg
4. Caroline Price George Washington
5. Randy Cary Capital
6. Nikki Howell Elkins
New comes Blaney and Carrier have both gone under 60 twice this year with
Blaney having slightly better times across the board. Carrier's speed could
make it very interesting. Hoeck is the only other runner under 60 this year
and took 4th place last year. Price took 2nd last year and could easily
move up again. Cary also has nice 200 speed and could improve on her 5th
place performance of last year. Howell is the only other runner under 61
so far this year but Jennifer Cooperrider of Nitro is very close behind.
800 M 1. Karly Hamric Preston
2. Allison Spiker Ripley
3. Keri Bland North Marion
4. Jennifer CoopperriderNitro
5. Heather Saffel Elkins
6. Kaylyn Christopher Preston
Hamric and Spiker waged a great battle last year with Spiker coming out on
top. Hamric had has better times this year. If the 1600 from earlier in the
day takes too much out of them, a fresher Bland could be ready to pounce.
Cooperrider has the next best time and best speed in the bunch, but the
400/1600 from earlier in the day could zap her. Saffel was 4th last year
and could move up the list. Christopher should be fresh and not have
had the 1600 which gives her and edge over teammate Amber Riley and
Parkersburg's Diane Kenaston (6th last year). Any one of at least 11 people
could easily place in this event.
1600 M 1. Ahna Lewis Morgantown
2. Alison Spiker Ripley
3. Amber Riley Preston
4. Diane Kenaston Parkersburg
5. Jennifer Coopperider Nitro
6. Karly Hamric Preston
Lewis, Spiker and Riley have all run times within 1/2 second of each other.
Lewis has hit 5:15 twice this year. Spiker's time came last year as she
took 2nd at the state meet. Riley will be there as well but the fast 3200
from the night before may take a toll. Kenaston was 4th last year and
could improve her place. Cooperrider has easily the next best series of
times in the group. Hamric has great 800 speed which could propel her to
a place. Claire Berryman of Morgantown is recoving from injury but could
easily contend as could Spring Valley's Emily Bailey and Greenbrier East's
Elise McClinic (6th last year)
3200 M 1. Claire Berryman Morgantown
2. Amber Riley Preston
3. Diane Kenaston Parkersburg
4. Allison Teter Parkersburg South
5. Maria Dalzot Morgantown
6. Emily Bailey Spring Valley
Berryman has been under 11:37 5 times this year. No one else more than
once. Amber Riley is the only other runner under 11:40 this year (twice)
and could push Berryman. Kenaston took 3rd last year and will be in the
chase. Teter won the event last year in 11:24.03 but has been fighting
injury. If fully healthy, she could contend as well. Dalzot has the next
best time and Bailey has run 4 races under 12:10 including one under 11:55.
Elkin's Katie Burda took 5th last year and could move way up.
100 HH 1. Kristin Loughry Hurricane
2. Julie Tawney Capital
3. Ebonee Winfrey Jefferson
4. Jennifer Whyte Ripley
5. Deanna Cline Parkersburg South
6. Stephanie Kisner Preston
Earlier this year, Loughry set a new state all time best at 14.66 and is a
clear favorite to repeat her title. Tawney took 2nd last year and looks
strong again with the 2nd best time and series of times. Winfrey won her
region and has the 3rd strongest series of times. Whyte took 3rd last year
and has the experience. Cline has the 3rd best time this year but doesn't
have the experience of the others. Kisner has the next best series of
times. Miranda Reed of Hedgesville is the most likely of the rest of the
hurdlers to step up and grab a place.
300 LH 1. Kristen Loughry Hurricane
2. Ebonee Winfrey Jefferson
3. Miranda Reed Hedgesville
4. Maggie Smith Jefferson
5. Danielle Fontaine Parkersburg
6. Logan Anderson Ripley
Loughy's regional time was a full second better than anyone else's this
year and makes her a prohibitive favorite. Winfrey is the only other
hurdler with two marks under 48 this year. Reed won her region and could
be right there as well. Smith took 2nd in the event last year at 46.36
but is about 2 seconds off that so far this year but the potential is there
for a breakout time. Fontaine has also gone under 48 and had an excellent
regional. Anderson has gone under 50 4 times (more than anyone else.).
Turner of John Marhall, Akers of Spring Valley and Kosar of Wheeling Park
could also factor in.
4x100 1. Woodrow Wilson
2. Jefferson
3. Capital
4. Huntington
5. South Charleston
6. Brooke
Woodrow has at least 5 times better than anyone else's best time and has
a great stable of runners. Jefferson is the only other team to go under
52 more than once and they have done it five times. Capital has the next
best time and series of times. South Charleston also has a number of
very good sprinters and the next best time. Brooke won their regional and
we gave them the edge over Hedgesville who is right there along with
George Washington
4x200 1. Capital
2. Woodrow Wilson
3. George Washington
4. Jefferson
5. Brooke
6. Parkersburg
The top three have all been under 1:48. 4 and 5 have been under
1:49. Capital has the best time and won their regionals. Woodrow Wilson
has the athletes to give them chase and George Washington is right there
as well. Jefferson and Brooke are very close. Parkersburg won their
region and was given the edge over Martinsburg.
4x400 1. Woodrow Wilson
2. Martinsburg
3. George Washington
4. Jefferson
5. Parkersburg
6. Morgantown
The top 3 teams seem extremly close. Woodrow has the best time and best
series of times this year. Martinsburg won their regionals and could take
states as well. GW is right in the mix as well. Jefferson could move up
and has a very good series of times. Parkersburg and Morgantown both
should be able to chop a few seconds off their time. John Marshall
has the next best time and ran a good regional.
4x800 1. Preston
2. Morgantown
3. Martinsburg
4. Elkins
5. Parkersburg
6. Jefferson
Preston and Morgantown are very close and both should go under 9:50 with
Preston's stable seemingly a little deeper. Martinsburg, Elkins and
Parkersburg and Jefferson seem just a few seconds back but all could dip under 10.
Capital qualifed 3 in the open 800 and could build off of that easily to slip in.
Shuttle 1. Hurricane
2. Parkersburg South
3. Jefferson
4. Parkersburg
5. John Marhsall
6. Morgantown
Loughry gives Hurricane the edge in the event. South is the only other
team under 107 this year. Jefferson won their regional and we gave them
a very slight edge over Parkersburg. Same for John Marshall over Morgantown
with the edge to the regional champ.
L Jump 1. Shardal Twyman Jefferson
2. LaQuita Wilburn Huntington
3. Chelsea Carrier Buckhannon Upshur
4. Brittany Rogers Cabell Midland
5. Logan Anderson Ripley
6. Latrice Weatherspoon North Marion
Twyman is defending champ and has 3 jumps over 17. Wilburn went over 17 in
regional and has the best top two jumps of remaining competitors. Carrier
has the next best jump and series of jumps. Rogers and Anderson have gove
over 16 feet 3 times. Only Twyman has more. Rogers has a slighly better
overall series. Weatherspoon had a monster regional jump and will need
to repeat the jump to place. Lara Stone of Morgantown took 3rd last year
with a jump in the low 16's and could easily place again. DeStefano
just started jumping so we don't know what her upward limit may be.
H Jump 1. Breanne Kosar Wheeling Park
2. Mariah Freeman Preston
3. Stephanie Kisner Preston
4. Julie Tawney Capital
5. Kendra Bloomer Parkersburg South
6. Lauren DeMarco Robert c. Byrd
Defending champ Kosar is only jumper over 5'4 (twice) this year and won her
regional. Freeman (6th last year) has gone over 5'2 five times. No one else
(except Kosar) has done it more than twice. The only other jumper to clear
5'2 more than once was Kisner (3rd Last year). Tawney hasn't hit 5'2 this
year but won her regional and took 2nd last year in the meet with a 5'2.
Bloomer won her region at 5'2 and Demarco is the only other jumper to go
greater than 5'0 more than twice this year. Jill Conrad of Fairmont Senior
took 6th last year and is in the mix as well as Wheeling Park's Betsy
Kaminski who as also gone over 5.02.
Shot 1. LaShawna Black Fairmont Senior
2. Rachel Blankenship Hurricane
3. Fawn Washington Capital
4. Megan Scites Cabell Midland
5. Ashley Morrow Cabell Midland
6. Shenelle Shannon Woodrow Wilson
40' used to be the mark only a couple people had ever hit. The top 4 girls
on this list have already done it this year. Black is defending champ and
has the best throw and two throws over 40'6 feet. Blankenship (5th last
year) has two throws over 40 feet and is only thrower besides Black to go
over 41. Washington's top throw is a little less than Scites' (4th last
year) regional toss but she has a better overall series as Sites went
almost 5 full feet over her previous best. Ditto for Morrow as her
regional throw of 39 was almost 4 feet better than her previous best.
Shannon has the next best throw and series of throws so she was given the
edge over Ashley Winston of Martinsburg who placed 6th last year.
Discus 1. Yolanda Anthony Woodrow Wilson
2. Fawn Washington Capital
3. Amber McCartney Parkersburg South
4. Brittney Fink Capital
5. Lauren Lomard Parkersburg
6. Carolyn Rockow Hampshire
Anthony has the best series of throws of any in this class giving her a
slight edge over Washington who has the best throw. McCartney and Fink
have both gone over 110 twice with the edge to McCartney who finished 2nd
last year to Fink's fifth. Lombard has been very consistent with mid 100
throws. Rockow placed 3rd last year and has the 3rd best throw on the list
but there is a big drop off after that throw. Hedgesville's Shawna
Faulkner and Uiveristy's Jennifer Pell have also thrown over 106 this year.
P Vault 1. Jennifer Hansen Capital
2. Kristen Loughry Hurricane
3. Anna Burdette Univeristy
4. Danielle Fontaine Parkersburg
5. Lauren DeMarco Robert C. Byrd
6. Jessie Boggs Parkersburg
Hansen continues to add to her legacy as the only girl in the state that
would likely place among the men on a level playing field. Loughry is
only one foot behind her and has gone over 11 twice. Burdette is othe only
other jumper to clear 10 this year. Fontaine went over 9'6 in regionals
and Demarco has cleared that mark 3 times. Bogg's has the 4th best 5th
jump in the state and could easily move up. Morgantown's Johanna Petitte
and South's Deanna Cline could also slip into this group.
High Point Predicitons

3. Chelea Carrier Buckhannon Upshur 30
4. Amber Riley Preston 16.5
