Individual Predictions
100 M 1. Kelly Puterbaugh Winfield
2. Zantana Murray Richwood
3. Brianna Clark Tyler Consolidated
4. Dominique Woods Bluefield
5. Lauren Gilbert Bridgeport
6. Ebony Jones Philip Barbour
Puterbaugh was 2nd last year and has the best overall series of times. Murray
placed last year as well and had a good regional showing. Clark is new to the
100 this year and is showing the benefit of running indoor 60's during the winter.
Woods has the top time of the group this season but hasn't had a lot of strong
performances to back it up. Gilbert still appears to be bringing her time down
and could move up. Jones was a placer last season and has really started to
step up late in the season and could also move up a few spots. Roshawna Mongold
could also figure into the mix.
200 M 1. Ayreal Thompson Weir
2. Zantana Murray Richwood
3. Kelly Puterbaugh Winfield
4. Megan Farmer Winfield
5. Lauren Gilbert Bridgeport
6. Dominique Woods Bluefield
Thompson is the defening champion and has four times that are better than anyone
else's top time. Murray looked very good at the Gazette Relays and had an excellent
regional run. Puterbaugh wasn't far behind Murray at the Gazette's and could
turn the tables on her. Farmer was right on Puterbaugh's heels at Gazette's and
regionals. Gilbert placed 3rd last year and is very consistent. She could easily
move up. Woods again has one of the top times in the field but hasn't run as
consistently fast as the rest. Ebony Jones of Philip Barbour could also be a factor.
400 M 1. Zantana Murray Richwood
2. Ashley Benevides Oak Glen
3. Brianna Clark Tyler Consolidated
4. Lauren Gilbert Bridgeport
5. Roshawna Mongold Petersburg
6. Allison RothlisbergerMagnolia
This could be one of the better races in the meet. Murray and Benavides are the
only runners to go under 60 seconds this year. Murray has a better top time and
Benavides has a better series of fast times. Clark is the defending champion
and could retain the title. Gilbert and Mongold were both under 61 seconds at
the regional meet and finished 2nd and 3rd last year, respectively. Rothlisberger
was also under 61 at her regional. All six of our projected placers were between
60.25 and 60.98 at their respective regional meets. This one could go to any of them.
800 M 1. Jennifer Povick Sissonville
2. Erika Rucker Grafton
3. Carly Gregson Weir
4. Emily McCoy Berkeley Springs
5. Brenna Hagerty Tyler Consolidated
6. Darby Mullen Logan
Povick should dominate the event. She has the speed and endurance combination that
could threaten the State Record. Things get very tight after that. Rucker was
2nd last year and has the potential to hit her 2:22 from last year. Gregson has
the 2nd best series of times and the 2nd best top time and could easily nab that
2nd spot. McCoy was given the nod over Hagerty due to Hagerty's presence in the
1600 earlier in the day. We haven't seen much of Mullen, but the 3 times we've
seen have been good. At least 6 others have a chance to break into the scoring.
This should be another tight race.
1600 M 1. Jennifer Povick Sissonville
2. Valerie Peer Berkeley Springs
3. Erika Rucker Grafton
4. Brenna Hagerty Tyler Consolidated
5. Kasey Jividen Winfield
6. Vanessa Adams Pikeview
Again, Povick should probably run away with the event. Peer only has the 4th
best time of the event, but she ran the first mile of the State Cross Country
meet faster than she's run the 1600 this season. We expect to see her step up
just as she did in Cross Country. Rucker ran under 5:20 last year, so the potential
is there to move up. Hagerty has the 2nd best series of times but could be
feeling the effects of trying to win the 3200 on Friday night. Jidiven is the
only other person to go under 5:40 so far. Adams was narrowly tabbed for the
6th spot over a field of 7 that have run between 5:41 and 5:48.
3200 M 1. Valerie Peer Berkeley Springs
2. Brenna Haggerty Tyler Consolidated
3. Kasey Jividen Winfield
4. Sarah Rosier Grafton
5. Jamie Cokeley Ritchie
6. Vanessa Adams Pikeview
Peer, while only having a slightly better best time, is a strong favorite. She
went through two miles in Cross Country in 11:38, so we have to believe that she
can run faster than her 11:59. Hagerty had an excellent showing in finsihing 4th
last year and will be looking to crack the 12:00 barrier. The next 6 are very
tightly packed. Rosier has the only sub-12:20 clocking from the remaining runners.
Cokeley and Adams have been under 12:30 twice. Cokeley beat Rosier in their
most recent head-to-head matchup. Then, there's Kate Merinar who is the only
one of that 6 to go under 12:30 three times. She could easily move up several
spots into the placers. Megan Lawless of Ravenswood and Alexa Jennings of Philip
Barbour who have also run under 12:30.
100 HH 1. Janice Drelick Weir
2. Emily Henley Winfield
3. Jennie Collinsworth Tyler Consolidated
4. Angela Krumpach Keyser
5. Ashley Helmstetter Frankfort
6. Micah Osbourne Winfield
Drelick is the only one in the field to go under 16 seconds, and she's been there
at least 5 times. Henley is the defending champion and has the 2nd best time.
Collinsworth has the next best series of times. Krumpach ws 3rd last season and
had an excellent regional run. Helmstetter was 5th last year and also looked
good at regionals. Osbourne actually has a better series than Krumpach or
Helmstetter and could easily move up. Roshawna Mongold has the speed to be a
major factor if she runs a clean race. Sarah Abbate finished 4th last year and
has to be considered a threat.
300 LH 1. Megan Farmer Winfield
2. Hilary Heinzman Magnolia
3. Roshawna Mongold Petersburg
4. Ashely Helmstetter Frankfort
5. Emily Henley Winfield
6. Sierra Brown Summers
Farmer has been the dominant force in this event throughout the season with at
least five runs faster than anyone else's best. Heinzman was given the nod over
Mongold due to Mongold's running of the 400 earlier Saturday morning. Helmstetter
looked good at the regional and finished just out of placing last year, but we
haven't seen much on her this season. Henley is actually the only one outside
the top 3 that has been under 50 more than once, and she finished 6th last season.
Brown is a definite threat, but she'll have to make her run out of the first heat,
which can make things more difficult. No one else in the field has been under
50 seconds yet this season, but 6 have been under 51.
4x100 M 1. Winfield
2. Weir
3. Oak Glen
4. Magnolia
5. Keyser
6. Lincoln
Winfield will have to make their run for the title out of the first heat, which
adds a degree of difficulty, but 3 of the 4 who ran a 50.95 last seson are back
and the unit ran 51.08 at Gazette's, which is over a half-second better than anyone
else has done this year. Weir is the only other team to go under 52, and they've
done it 4 times. Magnolia was beaten by Oak Glen at Regionals but has a slightly
better top time and a better overall series of times. Keyser, Lincoln, and Ritchie
have been under 54, and Keyser won their region by 0.52. Lincoln has a better
top time and a better series than Ritchie.
4x200 M 1. Weir
2. Winfield
3. Tyler Consolidated
4. Oak Glen
5. Keyser
6. Ritchie
Weir has the top time this year, but just by a bit. This one should be pretty close.
Tyler Consolidated is the only team to go under 1:50 three times and could take
the event. Oak Glen is the only other team that has run under 1:52, and they've hit
under 1:51 three times. Keyser had a strong showing in winning their regional
by a large margin and can likely go faster. Ritchie is the only other team that
has gone under 1:54 and they've been there 5 times.
4x400 M 1. Oak Glen
2. Magnolia
3. Weir
4. Frankfort
5. Ritchie
6. Bridgeport
This could be a great race. The three teams from Region I are all strong. Oak Glen
will have Ashley Benavides and her sub-60 running anchor. Magnolia has a deep group,
and Weir may add Ayreal Thompson to the unit since she has an open event that she
can slide into. Frankfort won their regional by nearly five seconds and should
be able to go faster. Ritchie had a very strong regional time. Bridgeport just
edged Berkeley Springs at the regional and it should be tight again. Winfield
has the potential to be a factor, but will have to do so out of the 1st heat.
4x800 M 1. Weir
2. Magnolia
3. Winfield
4. Ritchie
5. Grafton
6. Frankfort
Weir has two girls that have run 2:32 or better and another that went 2:28 last year.
That could set them up for a shot at running 10:05 or better. Magnolia ran a 10:20
three weeks ago and should be able to go faster. Winfield ran a 10:21 three weeks
ago and should be able to go faster. Ritchie has come on strong during the conference
and regional meets and could be a threat for a top 2 finish. Grafton was edged
by Frankfort at the regional but has the horses to knock several seconds off that
time.
Shuttle 1. Frankfort
2. Weir
3. Winfield
4. Tyler Consolidated
5. Magnolia
6. Bridgeport
Weir has the best series of times. Winfield has the best top time. But we're going
with Frankfort, who was extremely impressive in their region. It would certainly
be no surprise for either of the other teams to take the event. Tyler Consolidated
actuall has a better series than Frankfort or Winfield and could easily move up
the charts. Magnolia is the only other team to go under 1:10. Bridgeport just
missed cracking 1:10 at the regional and is a threat to move up. Point Pleasant,
Summers, and Oak Glen have each been under 1:11, making them a threat as well.
L Jump 1. Ashley Helmstetter Frankfort
2. Olivia Newsome Summers
3. Stephanie Cole Lincoln
4. Dominique Woods Bluefield
5. Lindsay Abshire Winfield
6. Laura Michael Berkeley Springs
Helmstetter had a monster jump at the regional meet, over 8 inches further than
anyone else has jumped this year. We don't have a lot of information on her this
year, so we can't really tell if this was typical or not, but obviously the potential
is there. Newsome is the only one in the field with three 16 foot jumps. Cole has
a pair of 16 foot jumps to ther credit, as does Woods. Michael is the only other
jumper with a 16 foot leap. Abshire has the next best series, with three jumps
over 15 feet.
H Jump 1. Lindsay Abshire Winfield
2. Briann Whitacre Frankfort
3. Valerie Wood Grafton
4. Hilary Heinzman Magnolia
5. Micah Bell Magnolia
6. Ashley Hatch Frankfort
Abshire is the only one in the bunch to go higher than 5'2 this year, and she's
done it 4 times. Whitacre has gone 5'2 and has three 5'0 jumps to accompany it.
Wood is the only person other than Abshire to have five jumps of 5'0, though she
does not have any 5'2 performances. Heinzman cleared 5'2 at the Regional, but
that is the only jump we've seen from her this season. Bell won the event last
year and has to be considered a threat. We've only seen two jumps for Hatch,
but each has been at least 5'0. Sierra Brown of Summers, and Jenna Fogg of Bridgeport
have both cleared 5'0 this season and could easily place.
Discus 1. Tiffany Clark Oak Glen
2. Betsy Nelson Ritchie
3. Lindsay Rumburg Pikeview
4. Maria Rodriguez Magnolia
5. Ashley Cutlip Webster
6. Nicole Baldwin Sissonville
Clark has the best top throw, the best series, and place 3rd last season. Nelson
has the 2nd best top throw and has really come on late in the season. Rumberg
has started inching her way up late in the season. Rodriguez is the only one
other than Clark to have five throws over 100 feet, but her top three throws of
the season came April 10th or earlier. Cutlip placed 5th last year and has a
better series than Baldwin. Christina Forbes of Magnolia is the only other thrower
to top 100 feet this season.
Shot 1. Lindsay Rumburg Pikeview
2. Bridgett Harper Winfield
3. Elizabeth Williams Keyser
4. Lindsey Bailey Lewis
5. Nicole Baldwin Sissonville
6. Katey Hipes Point Pleasant
Rumberg won the event by several feet last year. It should be closer this year,
but she has at least 5 throws that exceed 37 feet. No one else has more than one.
Harper had a toss of 38'11 at the Putnam County Meet. If she matches that, she'll
have a chance to take the event. No other thrower has a throw of over 35 feet.
Williams is actually the only other thrower to exceed 33 feet, which she has done
twice. Bailey has three tosses between 32'11 and 33'0. Baldwin has three throws
over 32'. Hipes has the next best series of throws, but Megan Webb of Keyser,
Andrea Burnett of Lincoln, and Brittany Bailey of Winfield have further top throws
and could figure into the placing.
P Vault 1. Maggie Tincher Winfield
2. Emilee Stout Bridgeport
3. Logan Bryant Bridgeport
4. Meghan Foster Ritche
5. Lacey Dodd Ritchie
6. Katie Puterbaugh Winfield
Tincher is the only vaulter in the field to clear 11'0, which she has done three
times. She has 5 jumps of 10'8 or better. South is the only other vaulter over
9', and she's cleared 10'0 at least five times. Bryant is the only other vaulter
to go over 8'6, and she has a pair of 8'0 vaults to go with it. Fosther is the only
vaulter outside the top two to have 5 vaults of 8'0. Dodd cleared 8'0 at the
regional meet. Puterbaugh, Rachel Hannum of Point Pleasant, and Andrea Jones of
Ritchie have cleared 7'6. Puterbaugh and Hannum have better series than Jones,
and Puterbaugh beat Hannum on misses at the regional meet to give her the nod for
the 6th spot.
