100 M 1. Jasymen Cotton Fayetteville
2. Camai Roberson Gilmer
3. Erica Williams Gilmer
4. Meaghan Coby Moorefield
5. Niki Zickefoose Doddridge
6. Stephanie Stoehr Wheeling Central
Jasymen Cotton has an impressive series of times and has yet to be beaten
in the event. Roberson has some nice hand-times. Williams is generally
right on the heels of Roberson. Coby edged Zickefoose in their regional
battle, though either could take the position. Stoehr's strong regional
showing gives her the edge over Cecily Miller and Amanda Horrocks.
200 M 1. Camai Roberson Gilmer
2. Jasymen Cotton Fayetteville
3. Erica Williams Gilmer
4. Niki Zickefoose Doddridge
5. Cecily Miller Meadow Bridge
6. Amanda Horrocks Midland Trail
Cotton is unscathed in this event as well. However, if she runs for the
win in the 800, she may not have enough rest to beat Roberson, who will
be fresh. Roberson also shows a stellar FinishLynx Regional Time. Williams
looks like a solid third again, though she did beat Roberson at the Gazette
Relays.
400 M 1. Jasymen Cotton Fayetteville
2. Erica Williams Gilmer
3. Jennie Spencer Doddridge
4. Amanda Hescht Williamstown
5. Katie Kern Charleston Catholic
6. Trista West South Harrison
Cotton has three times under 60 seconds and hasn't been beaten in this event
either. Williams has gone under 60 once and has three other outings under
62. Spencer has at least 5 runs under 63 seconds including one under 62.
Hescht has at least five runs under 64 seconds, including one under 63.
Kern also has at least five runs unde 64, including one under 63. Of their
top 5 times though, Hescht is just a little ahead on each one. We went with
West for 6th based on the fact that she has the 3rd best time, but no other
showings under 64 all season. She'll also have to do it out of the first heat,
making things a little more difficult. Scarlett Steele and Katie Elliott
could also figure in the placing.
800 M 1. Jennie Spencer Doddridge
2. Jasymen Cotton Fayetteville
3. Loralee Hillyard Paden City
4. Amanda Hescht Williamstown
5. Clara Grandt Doddridge
6. Scarlett Steele Mercer Christian
Spencer has a 2:22 under her belt and has 4 times under 2:28. Cotton has
only run the event a few times that we've seen, but has been impressive.
Her speed certainly makes her a threat. Hillyard doesn't have the next best
time, and actually only has the 8th best time of the group, but it's like
that every year...and every year she runs a 2:26. Hescht is the only other
person in the field to have gone under 2:30. Grandt has three runs of
2:32 or better, and the 1600 won't effect her performance. Steele only
has one recorded time in the event, so it's hard to say what she'll do.
Katie Elliott and Anna Fragale were also given serious consideration.
1600 M 1. Clara Grandt Doddridge
2. Hannah Robinson Cameron
3. Anna Fragale Charleston Catholic
4. Meghan Hughes Charleston Catholic
5. Amanda Blankenship Mount Hope
6. Amber Lowther Gilmer
Grandt has a 17 second advantage over the remainder of the field and should
win easily. Robinson has three times better than any of the remaining field's
best time. Fragale has been under 5:50 three times while no one remaining
has done it more than once. Hughes has been there once, but her top effort
came in mid-April. Blankenship has been under 5:50 once and at 5:50 one
other time, but those are the only marks under 6:00. Lowther ran a 5:47
at the LKC Conference Meet, but falls to 5:59 for her 2nd best effort. Only
Bethany Sloane and Carrie Zickefoose have multiple marks under 6:00 mintues
and either could easily move into the placing slots.
3200 M 1. Clara Grandt Doddridge
2. Megan Taylor St. Marys
3. Meghan Hughes Charleston Catholic
4. Deidre Wilson St. Marys
5. Kallen Weaver Wheeling Central
6. Valerie Hyde Doddridge
Grandt's cushion in the 1600 is nothing compared to her cushion in the 3200.
Her time is nearly a minute faster than that run by anyone else. In fact,
her 5th best time is 40 seconds faster than anyone else. After Grandt,
all spots are up for grabs. Any of about 9 or 10 kids could take the other
places in about any order. That being said, here's what we came up with.
Taylor only has three times on the season, but each is under 12:50 and her
12:33 is 8 seconds ahead of any of the remaining contenders. Hughes has
a pair of times under 12:45 and two others under 13:00. Wilson has one
mark under 12:45 and two others under 13:00. Weaver has four times under
13:00 and seems the most consistent of the bunch. Hyde has one sub-13
outing and beat Hughes at the Gazette Relays. Other contenders that can
take a spot are Carrie Zickefoose, Amanda Blankenship, Ashley Wolfe, Amber
Lowther, and Lisa Slack. None of them placing would be much of a surprise.
100 HH 1. Lauren Moyers Moorefield
2. Nicole White Doddridge
3. Tracy Beck St. Marys
4. Lindsay Elkins Buffalo
5. Jesse Natali Paden City
6. Bethany Kerwood Wheeling Central
Moyers has the top time by 0.4 and is the only one in the field with more
than three times under 17 seconds. White is the only other one with three
sub-17 outings. Beck ran a strong regional and ran close to White at the
LKC Championships. Elkins was in the finals of the event last season when
A and AA ran together and has a pair of sub-17 times. Natali also has a
pair of sub-17 times. Kerwood, to our knowledge, has only run the event
at one meet. That means she could move way up the charts or fall completely
off them with equal ease. Look out for Megan Tusing and Tracy Bailey,
who could jump in and grab a place.
300 LH 1. Lindsay Elkins Buffalo
2. Katie Kern Charleston Catholic
3. Jennie Spencer Doddridge
4. Tracy Bailey St. Marys
5. Jesse Natali Paden City
6. Jamie Winnings Greenbrier West
Elkins placed 3rd in the A-AA event last season and also won the Gazette
Relays this season. Kern beat Elkins at the regional but will be coming
off the 400. Spencer will also be running the 400, but she ran 48.85 after
running the 800 and could take the event outright. Bailey owns a recent
victory over Spencer. No one other than these 4 have been under 50 seconds.
Natali has three times under 51. Winnings only shows two outings in the
event, but has been under 52 in both. She went 51.05 in her region without
being pushed. Bethany Kerwood and Megan Tusing could also factor in.
4x100 1. Gilmer
2. Wheeling Central
3. Moorefield
4. Charleston Catholic
5. Greenbrier West
6. Madonna
Gilmer is a strong favorite in this event. Roberson as your anchor leg
tends to do that. Wheeling Central looks to be a very solid second. Moorefield
would contend for the title if not for an injury to Carrie Bierkamp. They should
still grab a 3rd without her. Charleston Catholic and Greenbrier West are
just about interchangeable. Madonna is given the nod over Tygarts Valley
for the final spot based on a better regional showing.
4x200 1. Charleston Catholic
2. Wheeling Central
3. Moorefield
4. Greenbrier West
5. St. Marys
6. Gilmer
Charleston Catholic has a best time that beats the field by over a second.
Wheeling Central has a strong series of 1:54's. Moorefield has a pair of
1:54's of its own, as does Greenbrier West...Moorefield's are just slightly
quicker. St. Marys has a pair of 1:56 runs. Gilmer doesn't have any runs
under 1:57 and will be running from the first heat. However, don't be surprised
if Camai Roberson is pulled from the High Jump and put into the 4x200. Given
that possibility, we didn't want to leave them off the list. Her addition
could take them as high as third.
4x400 1. Charleston Catholic
2. Wheeling Central
3. Doddridge
4. Williamstown
5. Gilmer
6. Paden City
Charleston Catholic had the best regional showing and has the potential to
chop another 8 seconds or so off that time. Wheeling Central also ran a
strong regional, and we think there's another 6 seconds to be found there
as well. Doddridge has the best time of the season of the bunch back at
the Fenton Relays, and we think they can chip about three seconds off that
mark. Williamstown has gone 4:30, and we can see a 4:25 unit coming from
them. Gilmer has only gone 4:38, but we've dug around and think they can
come up with a 4:26. Paden City has a 4:32 under their belt and can likely
find a few more seconds.
4x800 1. Charleston Catholic
2. Cameron
3. Wheeling Central
4. Williamstown
5. Doddridge
6. St. Marys
Charleston Catholic has the best time of the group, and we can see them
going under 10:19. Cameron had the best regional showing and ran a 10:35
without being pushed. Going under 10:25 is a possibility. Wheeling Central
has only run a 10:54 this season, but looking at what they have, they can
come up with around a 10:25 in the end. Williamstown ran a 10:48 at the
LKC Championships, and did so without Amanda Hescht. Throw her on there
and they're right on the heels of Central and Cameron. Doddridge has gone
10:47 and can come up with a few more seconds, and potentially many seconds
if they were to pull Jennie Spencer from the 400, 300 Hurdles, or the High
Jump. St. Marys ran a 10:42 at the LKC Championships and can likely chip
a little time off that.
Shuttle 1. Tygarts Valley
2. St. Marys
3. Buffalo
4. Wheeling Central
5. Doddridge
6. Gilmer
Tygarts Valley has a 1:08 to their credit and no one else has gone under
1:10. They also have two other runs of under 1:11. St. Marys had a strong
regional showing and two times under 1:11. Buffalo has only been under
1:11 once, but is by far the most consistent unit and could easily take the
event. Wheeling Central is the only remaining team to have gone under 1:12.
Doddridge has three outings under 1:13. Gilmer hasn't been under 1:13, but
they do have 4 times between 1:13.0 and 1:13.1. East Hardy and Madonna
could jump up and take a spot pretty easily.
L Jump 1. Erica Williams Gilmer
2. Amanda Horrocks Midland Trail
3. Lauren Moyers Moorefield
4. Kelsey Oldfield St. Marys
5. Carolyn Shiflett Tygarts Valley
6. Hannah Chambers Gilmer
Williams and Horrocks should have a nice battle. They both have a pair
of 16' jumps. Williams goes a little further on both hers and nearly hit
17' at Ritchie County (where the board is like a trampoline). Horrocks
is the defending State Champion, though, and Williams will have to be on
top of her game to take the title away. Moyers and Oldfield each have
three marks over 15'. Shiflett and Chambers each have a pair. Moyers'
two best jumps edge Oldfields. Chambers actually has a slightly better
series than Shiflett, but Shiflett outshined her in regional performance.
Beware of Christina Kast and Brooke Wilson as well.
H Jump 1. Niki Zickefoose Doddridge
2. Amanda Horrocks Midland Trail
3. Molly Kiger Williamstown
4. Jennie Spencer Doddridge
5. Monica Wamsley Tygarts Valley
6. Erica Spencer Paden City
Zickefoose has three jumps of 5'2 or better and several others of 5'0. Despite
her sub-par regional effort, she is the clear favorite in this event. Horrocks
has a 5'2 jump and three other 5'0 efforts. Kiger has a 5'2 and three other
5'0 jumps. Horrocks gets the nod because she jumped 5'0 at regionals and
Kiger did not. Jennie Spencer placed 2nd in the A-AA event last season and is
the only person other than Zickefoose to have 5 jumps of 5'0 or better.
Wamsley has a 5'2 jump to her credit but only has one other 5'0 jump to back
it up. Erica Spencer has a pair of 5'0 jumps, and one of them came at the
regional meet, which is why she gets the nod over Emily Rader. However, Rader
did place third last season and could easily do so again this season.
Shot 1. Molly Kiger Williamstown
2. Jennifer Pettry Marsh Fork
3. Megan Ueltschy Valley Wetzel
4. Katelyn Wilkins East Hardy
5. Kayla Todd Doddridge
6. Keri Allman Doddridge
Kiger has a 41 foot throw on the season, over 5 feet further than anyone
else's top throw. Her 5th best throw eclipses everyone else's best by nearly
three feet. Pettry has a pair of 35's and a pair of 34's. Ueltschy has a
best throw that beats Pettry's but drops to just over 34 feet on her 2nd
best toss. Wilkins gets the nod over Todd based on her regional triumph.
Todd actually has a better series of throws. Allman has the next best throw,
though she could be toppled by Amy Riddle or Sheena Kinkade for a spot.
Discus 1. Jennifer Pettry Marsh Fork
2. Kate Clark Doddridge
3. Molly Kiger Williamstown
4. Megan Ueltschy Valley Wetzel
5. Amy Riddle Notre Dame
6. Dedra McDaniel Mercer Christian
Pettry has the best throw of the field and has three throws over 113'. Clark
is the most consistent of the bunch and has far and away the best series
with at least 5 throws over 114. She also placed 2nd in the A-AA event last
season. Kiger has a toss of 117' but only two others over 110'. Ueltschy
is the only other competitor with 5 100' tosses. Riddle has three over 100'.
McDaniel is the only other competitor to exceed 100' with her regional toss
of 104'. Her second best recorded throw is only 90' though, and that could
open the doore for Vanessa Cogar or Jennifer Maurer.
P Vault 1. Nicole White Doddridge
2. Kendall Queen Williamstown
3. Chantel Simmons Doddridge
4. Susanne Pinard Doddridge
5. Sami Postelwaite Williamstown
6. Kayla Thompson Williamstown
White is the only one with a double-digit vault this season, and she has
4 vaults of 9'6 or better. Queen is the only other vaulter to clear 9'0
and she does so consistently. Simmons has three marks of 8'6 and a bunch
of 8'0 showings. Pincard has come on as of late and has a pair of 7'6 vaults
to show for it. Postelwaite and Thompson both have a single vault of 7'6, but
Postelwaite gets the nod because hers came more recently.
High Point Predictions

3. Jennie Spencer Doddridge 26
4. Clara Grandt Doddridge 21.50
