A Boys Individual Event Predictions

100 M	1. Chris Fleming	Greenbrier West
	2. John Adam Romeo	South Harrison
	3. Pat Zadrozny Wheeling Central
	4. Jason Smith Buffalo
	5. Eddie Mongold	Moorefield
	6. Matthew Liller	Union

Fleming won the AA-A combined meet last year and is a heavy favorite
in the event. Romeo and Zadrozny should battle it out for the two
spot with Romeo having a better series of times so far this year.
Smith won his regional and has a good consistent series of times.
Mongold has several fast clockings this year and could place higher
but barely escaped regionals. Liller beat him in regionals as did
Cody Shahan of Tucker (who also beat Liller but Liller has a better
series of times). Dustin Briscoe has beaten teammate Smith in
event so it looks pretty wide open midway through the placers and
on down.

200M	1. Chris Fleming	Greenbrier West
	2. Joshua McKee Wheeling Central
	3. John Adam Romeo	South Harrison
	4. Kenny Templeton	Williamstown
	5. Chris Neely Meadow Bridge
	6. Daniel Sine East Hardy

Fleming took third in last year's meet, has the fastest time this
year by over 1/2 a second and his 5th best time is better than anyone
else's best time. McKee ran very well in regionals and Romeo is very
close to him has slightly faster times but a slower regional.
Templeton also won his regional in fine fashion. Neely had a better
regional than Sine and has a better time series despite Sine's better
top time. Eddie Mongold of Moorefield had a reported 23.38 during the
season but was barely below 24 the rest of the time. Another low 23
and he will move well into the placers.

400M	1. Ryan Jobes Williamstown
	2. Eric Belancic	Wheeling Central
	3. Mike Drescher	Doddridge
	4. Wayne Ritter Doddridge
	5. Chris Neely Meadow Bridge
	6. Chris Fleming	Greenbrier West

Jobes has gone under 50 this year and is about 1.5 seconds faster
than anyone else. Belancic has been 52 twice this year. Drescher
and Ritter went below 52 at regionals, the only other people to
go below that mark so far this year. Neely dominated his region and
has the speed to move up. Speaking of speed, Fleming obviously has
it to burn and placed 6th last year. A top 3 finish is easily
within reach, but he'll have to run well to place. Keep an eye on
Gilmer's Travis Fisher. He has beaten both Drescher and Ritter
earlier this year and has a better best time than Neely. A top 3 is
also not out of the question for him.

800M	1. Ryan Jobes Williamstown
	2. John Matherly	Charleston Catholic
	3. Travis Fisher	Gilmer
	4. Nick Pickrell	Williamstown
	5. Mike Drescher	Doddridge
	6. Eric Thompson	Doddridge

Jobes placed 4th in the event last year and has gone below 1:59 this
year. No one else is below 2:02. Matherly ran a great regional but
will have to fight off Fisher again as both have gone under 2:03.
Pickrell and Drescher both have 2:04's to their credit, with Pickrell
having a better overall series. Thompson is the only other runner
under 2:07. Jason Powell of Mercer Christian, Wayne Ritter of
Doddridge and Ryan Howard of Cameron could also crack the point column.

1600M	1. Ryan Jobes Williamstown
	2. Adam Raper Williamstown
	3. Jamie Blair Charleston catholic
	4. Nick Pickrell	Williamstown
	5. Eric Thompson	Doddridge
	6. Brent Wellings	Doddridge

Jobes has gone under 4:30 this year, no one else under 4:37. Raper
is the only other runner under 4:40 so far this year and placed 5th
in the event last year. Blair has the next best time and series of
times and Pickrell has two sub 4:45 times. Thompson and Wellings
could also go as high as 3rd as the placing should be tight here.

3200M	1. Adam Raper Williamstown
	2. Adam Coon Sherman
	3. Jamie Blair Charleston Catholic
	4. Alex Sacco Wheeling Central
	5. Corey Brown Williamstown
	6. Eric Thompson	Doddridge

Raper is ahead of anyone else by 6 seconds and Coon ahead of the rest
by another 4 seconds. Raper has the speed to finish it and Coon has
been very consistent and has the bust total time series of the group.
The rest of the top 6 are only separated by 6 seconds and all of them
have a good shot at 3rd or better. Blair has the best series of times
and has been consistent as well this year. Sacco has the 3rd best time
in the field and Brown and Thompson are close behind. After this
group of six, no one else has come within 18 seconds of their top
times.

110H	1. Eric Novick Wheeling Central
	2. Eric Belancic	Wheeling Central
	3. Dylan Hashman	St. Marys
	4. Andrew Hose Moorefield
	5. Scott Wallace	South Harrison
	6. Thomas Hutchinson	Buffalo

Novick has continued to improve all season long and has become the man
to beat. His 15.04 regional clocking was nearly 1/4 second better than
anyone else's best time this year. Belancic may be the only one to
be able to challenge him and has beaten him this year as well as
placing fifth in the combined state meet last year. Hashman has
the next best time and series, followed by Hose. Wallace had an
excellent regional run that has moved him up the board. Hutchinson
has the next best series of times and a good regional clocking as well.
Brandon Boone of Greenbrier West should be in the mix as well.

300H	1. Eric Novick Wheeling Central
	2. Josh Brookover	Williamstown
	3. Eric Kromberg	Parkersburg Catholic
	4. Cody Boyd Williamstown
	5. Chris Neely Meadow Bridge
	6. Thomas Hutchinson	Buffalo

Novick has the best time in the class this year, two times under 41,
and at least 5 times under 42 (leading the class in those categories
as well. Brookover is the only other runner under 41 this year and has
3 times under 42. Kromberg is the only other runner with multiple times
under 42 and Boyd the only other runner under that mark. They are
about 1.5 seconds ahead of the rest of the field with Neely having the
next best time and speed to go even faster. Hutchinson has a good series
of times and was given the edge over Andrew Home of Moorefield slightly
faster top time.

4x100	1. Williamstown
	2. Wheeling Central
	3. East Hardy
	4. Greenbrier West
	5. Moorefield
	6. Valley Fayette

Williamstown has excellent team speed and has 5 times better than
anyone else's best time. Central is the only other team under 46 so
far this year. East Hardy has a good stable of sprinters as well and
has the 3rd fastest time in the state this year, set while winning their
regional meet. Greenbrier West won their regional and has Chris
Fleming as their anchor man. Moorefield has a low 46 mark this year
and could compete for 3rd as well. Valley Fayette, Tucker and Buffalo
should fight it out for 6th with Valley having the better regional.

4x200	1. Williamstown
	2. Wheeling Central
	3. Doddridge
	4. East Hardy
	5. Tucker
	6. Buffalo

Different sprint relay, same story. Williamstown has the horses and
four times under 1:33. No one else has even one. Wheeling Central
isn't so far back that Williamstown won't have to run their best
though. No one else is under 1:35 and several teams have hit times
in that area. Doddridge has been there more often than anyone else
(3) while East Hardy and Tucker have done it twice with East Hardy
handily over Tucker in the regional. Buffalo's top three times are
all better than Valley Fayettes top time so they look like a solid
pick to place as well.

4x400	1. Williamstown
	2. Doddridge
	3. Pocahontas
	4. Wheeling Central
	5. Charleston Catholic
	6. Valley Fayette

When it comes to the relays, we try to guess who will be running
since teams often load up at states for possibly the first time
all year. That is often why you will see picks that seem to
be out of order with regional and best times. Williamstown has
been the dominant team in this event all year and with Jobes
likley running this event instead of the 4x800, they should be
able to hold off other teams. If Doddridge chooses to fully
load this team, they could come close to Williamstown but
probably still be short. Pocahontas puts together a solid team
effort from top to bottom and is currently 6 seconds ahead of the
remaing teams. Wheeling Central might also challenge Williamstown
if they fully loaded their team, but they will maximize scoring by
using some of their athletes elsewhere. Valley Fayette and Catholic
have the next best times this year with Catholic seeming to have
more potential. Gilmer should be in the mix as well.

4x800	1. Williamstown
	2. Doddridge
	3. Charleston Catholic
	4. Wheeling Central
	5. Gilmer
	6. Cameron

See the the 4x4 above for comments about loaded teams vs. regional
times, etc. Williamstown probably won't load their team as they
don't need to to win. Doddridge has a solid team (with easily the
second best time so far this year) and should be able to hold off
Charleston Catholic who has the ability to upgrade their team time
significantly. Wheeling Central, Gilmer and Cameron are several
seconds apart for the next few spots and several seconds ahead of
anyone else. Each has the ability to improve their time by several
seconds so they'll probably fall about where they currently do on
the best performances list. East Hardy and St. Marys could
challenge for spots if they pull a couple runners in that we don't
know about.

Shuttle	1. Wheeling Central
	2. Williamstown
	3. Buffalo
	4. St. Marys
	5. South Harrison
	6. Valley Fayette

Central's shuttle team is likely all that stands in the way of a
Williamstown sweep of the relay events. Central has the best time
in the state this year and 4 times under 60. Williamstown has two
times in that range. Buffalo is the only other team under 1:03
with a 1:01 mark earlier this month. St. Marys and South Harrison
have both been in the 103's with South Harrison having a better
series of times. Valley Fayette has the next best time and series
of times. Greenbrier West easily won their region and could
contend her as well.

H Jump	1. Eric Belancic	Wheeling Central
	2. Jomarrae Gordon	Pendleton
	3. Matt Beiter Bishop Donahue
	4. Johan Berte South Harrison
	5. Mark Sabolsky	Hannan
	6. Brian Spitzer	Greenbrier West

Belancic is the best jumper in the state this year regardless of
class. He is the defending champion and has a jump of 6'9 and at
least 5 jumps over 6'6. Gordon came onto the scene fairly late this
year but his 6'4 jump puts him where no one else has gone. Beiter
jumped decently in states last year and has two jumps of 6'2 this
year. Berte has two marks over 6'0 and Sabolsky 1, the only other
jumpers in the field with reported marks of greater than 5'10.
Spitzer's 5'10 jump in regionals along with his good LJ ability has
convinced us to move him ahead of the rest of the 5'10 jumpers.
Of the remaining jumpers, Joe Duffelmeyer of Doddridge has 3 5'10
leaps and no one else has more than one.

L Jump	1. Brian Spitzer	Greenbrier West
	2. Daniel Watson	Buffalo
	3. Donnie Robinson	Union
	4. Jacob Lilly Gilmer
	5. Preston Copeland	Valley Fayette
	6. Drew Hines Charleston Catholic

Spitzer placed 6th last year and has the best jump in the class this
year by nearly 1/2 foot. Watson jumped well at regionals and finished
fifth in the event last year. Robinson also has a 20' leap this year
at his regional meet. Lilly has a solid series of jumps this year
with several over 19'6 feet while Copeland has also neared 20 feet.
Hines jumped well at Gazettes and is one of only three others to have
cleared 19' this year (Berte of South Harrison and Gsell of Tucker).

P Vault	1. Willie Sarine	Doddridge
	2. Wes Billups Williamstown
	3. Dylan Hashman	St. Marys
	4. Justice Powers	Williamstown
	5. Josh Weithe Wheeling Central
	6. James Fenton Williamstown

Sarine switched to a longer pole later in the year and immediately
went over 13'. Billips and Hashman have an equal amont of vaults
over 12'6 with Billups being given the edge due to his 4th place
finish int he event last year. Powers is the only other jumper in
the field to go over 13' but has no 12'6 marks behind hit. Wiethe
took 3rd in the event last year, but needs a 12'6 to go that high
again. Fenton has cleared 12'0 twice this year and no one else in
the field has. Sayer Romage of Mount Hope isn't very far off with
a number of marks in the 11'6/11' range.

Discus	1. Zac Hall Williamstown
	2. Tony Flinn Williamstown
	3. Patrick Hart Buffalo
	4. Travis Shreve	Valley Wetzel
	5. Josiah Barton	Bishop Donahue
	6. Tyrone Powell	Mount Hope

Hall (3rd last year) has 2 throws over 160' and 3 more over 154. No
one else has gone over 146. Flinn has 4 throws over 140 and we gave
him the edge over Hart who has a top mark 4 feet greater than Flinn but
no other marks above 138. Shreve placed second in the event last year
and has potential. Barton is the only other thrower over 140' so
far this year. Powell has the best series of the remaining throwers and
the 6th best throw overall. Josh Burns of St. Marys has 3 throws over
130' and that might be well enough to place. Jeffrey Wilkins of East
Hardy has a 139' to his credit and could land in the top 3 with another
throw of that distance.

Shot	1. Tony Flinn Williamstown
	2. Tim Williams Doddridge
	3. Tyrone Powell	Mount Hope
	4. Travis Shreve	Valley Wetzel
	5. Brian McCulley	Bishop Donahue
	6. Patrick Hart Buffalo

Flinn placed 6th in the event last year and has two throws over 49' as
well as the best overall series and top throw. Williams has also been
over 49 this year. Powell has the best series among the remaining
throwers so we gave him the edge over Shreve who has the 3rd best
throw in class. McCulley has been very consistent this year so we
placed him ahead of Hart and Bruce Whitlock of Pendleton who have
slightly better top throws but not as good top five throws.
