Paul,
I have been on the phone the last two hours talking with
Larry Butcher, John Rowland, and Jim Hudson regarding the Coach's Association.
Here are the items which we discussed and what we thought should be done
to help promote the association.
- We wanted to get someone in each region to contact all cross country
and track coaches and to get the following information: Home Addresses;
Home Phone Number; E-Mail Address; Fax Number; Work Phone Number and
Address (the reason for the last one is that some coaches are not in the
building they coach or are not educators.) We would like to develop a
Directory of ALL Cross Country and Track Coaches in the State.
- Discuss dates and location for a Cross Country Clinic. Scott Welch
of Charleston Catholic agreed in March to check on getting permission to use
facilities at his school. I called him tonight and left a message on his
answering machine. Proposed dates are December 5 and 12. We also want
to set up a location for the planned Track Clinic to be held on February 28.
Last year there was a conflict with Zanesville, OH and MF Athletic went
there instead of WV and as a result the clinic to be held at St. Marys
fell
through.
- We need to find out the concerns of CC and Track coaches. What do
they want the organization to do or what direction do they think it
should
take. Other concerns which the association could or should consider
getting involved.
- Web Site available to anyone that has access to a computer.

[Note: RunWV is changing to: www.RunWV.com]
Run WV has Cross Country and
Track information. It is an excellent place to find information about
meets, results, etc. John Trent III [Dave Weekley, and Josh Weekley] organize this
site. They have agreed to do anything they can to help promote track and
cross country. They have a section for "Coaches News" and we can use
this to post information for all to see. ( I sent him my Region I Newsletter
and it is posted for all to read.) Check it out!
- Some of have continued to talk about moving the State Cross Country
Meet back a week to allow college coaches an opportunity to see our kids
run. We need to know how all the coaches feel about this, not just a few
of us. It is important for the kids!
- Jim Hudson and I talked about creating a listing of all seniors,
juniors, sophomores and their results (times, etc.) and keeping this
current from year to year. This would allow college coaches to access the
site and see how athletes are performing, year in school, etc. This would
be a great tool to provide for our kids to help them get college
scholarships. At the present time it is a guessing game as to what grade a
kid is in school. We could also use this list in getting a team together
for the Mid-West Meet of Champions for Cross Country and Track. There
were kids in our area which we could have recruited to run this past June
but didn't know they were seniors. We believe that we could do a lot from
this site.
- Question????? What do the coaches in your area think we should be
doing? We are just trying to get this off the ground. We need the help of
everyone.
[Note from RunWV: You can respond to this site or directly to David
Evans pertaining to this question or others.]
At this time, we are asking someone in each region to contact all the cross
country/track coaches in their region and have a meeting. The questions
listed above should be enough to get this initial meeting started. We are
asking you to Brainstorm for other ideas that should be considered. Those
of us that were at the initial meeting do not have all the answers and we
need your help. We would like for you to forward the names of those
joining the organization and the information about as many of the other
coaches as possible. Ohio is doing a great job and we are trying to
pattern our organization after them but it is going to take time to get
this off the ground. (So, I guess what I am trying to say is that, you
would be in charge of the meeting and getting as much accomplished as you
can regarding what is listed above.)
The following people will be working in the following regions. If you
would like to contact them, feel free to do so.
