2010 – 13th Annual

ELKINS MIDDLE SCHOOL

Cross-Country

INVITATIONAL

Dear Fellow Coaches,

Elkins Middle School would like to invite your team(s) to our 13th  annual Elkins “Hornets’” Middle School Cross-Country Invitational this year.  Our location has changed this year ONLY, unless our new course is not available for the 2011 season.  Our new location will be located at the (Randolph County 4-H Camp located in Beverly, WV.)  *****See directions below*****

EVENT DATE:

(Saturday, September 25th, 2010)

Our course will be 2.1 miles approximately.  From start to Finish, this course will be ONE big loop with a small portion that back tracks, and this will be in the last 400 yards.  There will be a couple wooded sections, (with 1 hill located in the woods, compare it to Doddridge, but not as rugged or long), and the rest will be out in the open, (compare it to the Chick-fil-A course).  The start and finish will be side by side.  There will be a small stream for the runners to negotiate, but if there would be rain the night before, it might be interesting.

Notice: Our restrooms will be located in the newest building you will see, (look for signs), and there will be NO SPIKES allowed when entering.

RUNNING SCHEDULE:

Please arrive in time to walk the course if you want.  I will only delay the first race if I know a team will be late, not because a team is still walking the course.  (NOTICE TO COACHES; if you are on the road, get lost or have bus problems, please call this cell phone: (704-7805) by 9:15am.

DIRECTIONS TO THE RANDLOPH COUNTY 4-H CAMP

This course is approximately 10 miles past the (Iron Horse) on route 33 east.  You may want to add 20 to 30 minutes to your departure time.  (Here is the exact mileage if you set your odometer.

(When you get to the Iron Horse) It is:

(1.)         7 miles to the (4-H Camp sign/Files Creek Road).  You will go through your 1st light with the federal building to your right.  Go through 2nd light with Krogers/McDonalds to your right.  This will put you on the 4 lane, 33 East.  Go through 3rd light with Bob Evans to your right, then 4th light with Wal-Mart to your left, and through your last light with Elkins High School sign to your right.  Continue on 4 lane until it runs out and then you should be coming into the town of Beverly.  Once in Beverly, you are looking for the 4-H Camp/Files Creek Road sign on the LEFT.  (3/4 mile to this sign, (give or take a tenth). Make this left onto this road.

(2.)         Once on Files Creek Road travel 2.3 miles to your next 4-H Camp road sign.  There is a sharp “S”turn with the Post Office to your right.  This is a curve road not bad.  Once you pass the “Sugar Creek Road” sign on your left, YOU will make the next right, the 4-H sign will be there.

(3.)         Now you are on the (4-H Camp Road), travel .6 tenths of a mile, and the course will be on your left.  If in a bus, stop or pull over to unload kids.  Buses will be parked at a different location.  This could change though, and there will be someone there to direct you.
