The Annual Cross Country Coaches' Committee meeting was held last week at the WVSSAC offices in Parkersburg. Remember that any recommendations from the Coaches' Committee must then be approved by the WVSSAC Board of Directors, and that does not always happen. That being said, from notes passed along to me, here are the highlights:
There was a motion to recommend that regular season meets follow the same race order as the State Meet (Boys then Girls or Girls then Boys depending on the year). It's my understanding that this won't be a requirement, but a recommendation. This motion passed unanimously.
There was a motion to require the use of Hy-Tek Meet Manager for all Regional Meets. This motion passed unanimously.
There was a motion to have athletes recognized at the State Meet Awards Ceremony wear school identifying clothing. This motion passed unanimously.
The following Regional Sites for 2009 were determined: Region AAA A-AA I Apple Valley Doddridge II Elkins Grafton III Camp Virgil Tate PikeView IV Hurricane Camp Virgil Tate
There was a motion to implement a two year study to change the individual qualifying from top 10 inclusive to top 5 exclusive. This motion passed unanimously. There may be some confusion regarding what was actually passed on this motion. I've heard that it passed to start doing top 5 exclusive. I've also heard that the motion was to take whichever advanced the most people, meaning that some regions would be 10 inclusive and others would be 5 exclusive.
