Meet: AAA Girls State Meet Predictions
Location: Cabell Midland High School
Date: To be held October 27, 2007
Predicted AAA Girls Team Results
The AAA Girls will open the day on Saturday. I really have to look at this as though
it's a two-team race. I can't see anyone other than University or Morgantown winning
the title. University has really established itself as a prohibitive favorite, but
Morgantown can't be taken lightly. They have much more upward mobility in their predicted
places than University. If April Rich and/or the resurgent Gabrielle Lafata has a stellar
race, Morgantown could turn this thing upside down. University has a great pack of
seemingly interchangeable parts once you get past the first three: Sirockman, Wyatt,
Van der Sloot, and Kimble. On any given meet, they can finish in any order. The one
consistent thing is that no matter what their order, they're all near the front. Cabell
Midland and Preston should battle for 3rd. Midland looks a little better on paper,
but Preston has more upside potential from their 4-5 runners and could take the spot. At
the same time, though, they have less room for error in their front three positions.
Hurricane looks to be very solidly in 5th, but a falter by Preston could move them up.
1. University 56
2. Morgantown 81
3. Cabell Midland 102
4. Preston 110
5. Hurricane 155
6. Parkersburg 184
7. Hampshire 184
8. Elkins 185
9. Jefferson 205
10. Capital 235
11. George Washington 281
Predicted AAA Girls Top 25
Letitia Propst and Allison Pettit should have another in a series of fine duels this
year. Propst took three of the four meetings, though Pettit obviously was not racing
in one of them. Propst also took the most recent meeting for the Conference title.
Pettit has performed well on the big stage in the past. But I'm going with the Freshman
on this one. It will be close, and I think a close race at the end goes in favor of
Propst. If Pettit wants to win, she'll need to get away before they get on the track.
Courtney Yaeger nipped Ari Kasprowicz at the Regional, so I'm giving her the nod for
3rd. However, Kasprowicz did beat Yaeger at the Mountaintop Combo in their only other
meeting. Hallie Portner is certainly a threat to move up, and I honestly wouldn't rule
her out of winning the whole thing. Emma Berry is actually the third ranked runner in
the field and could easily move up, as she did last year when she moved up 8 spots.
Lydia Martinelli has been very solid all year and performed very well in the State Meet
last year. Alex Dent is a bit of a wild card. She really hasn't gotten to run against
this top group of girls all season (aside from her DQ at the Geico Classic), so it's a
little hard to tell where she stands. Ashley Teets has been a solid big meet performer
for a few years now. Jordan Hamric is also a bit of a wild card. We saw what she could
do on the track in the State Track Meet, so it isn't farfetched to think she could move
up several spots. She did beat Yeager, Portner, Berry, Martinelli, and Teets at the
Mountaintop Combo. There is going to be plenty of competition for those All-State spots.
Chelsea Jarvis (undervalued and very steady), Sarah Martinelli (generally runs very close
to sister Lydia), Aubrey Moskal (very strong State Meet last year), Kylie Lemons (usually
runs fairly close to Dent and ran well at Geico), and Rana Conneway (strong Geico showing)
are the most likely to sneak in and take a spot.
The predicted top 25 are as follows.
