2007 GEICO Classic

Coaches Information

We would like to welcome your team to Cabell Midland High School for the 2007 GEICO Classic. We want all teams to have a great experience at the GEICO Classic and we will do everything possible to achieve this goal.  If you have any questions, the meet director is Chris Parsons.

The weather is going to allow us to use “Tent City” this year, which is located between the baseball and softball fields. We will not have to be inside the gymnasium & you’ll be closer to the start and finish areas. The school will be locked up during the GEICO Classic because we need nothing from there. Please be aware that tents are not permitted inside the football stadium or near the shot put/discus areas on the practice field. At past Cross Country meets at Cabell Midland, we have allowed teams to put their tents in many places, but with the size of this meet, we have designated areas for tents.

There is a drop off area for buses & team vehicles, which will allow teams to be only 20 feet from Tent City. As you drive down the hill to Cabell Midland, turn right & go all the way behind the school & between the soccer, baseball, & softball fields. Unload your vehicles and then park in the lot. Buses will park along the driveway or behind the school.

Packet pick-up will be at the concession stand beside Tent City. Make sure to check that each of your athletes has a race number.  If you have an athlete who needs a number, see Tom Plummer or Matt Lucas at the finish line over at the football stadium. If you have a number in your packet for an athlete who is not running, just ignore it because they will not be counted.

The 2007 GEICO Classic t-shirt will be sold at the concession stand in “Tent City”.

Restrooms are located at the concession stand and over at the football stadium.

Results will be posted inside the stadium on the results board.  Results will be available approximation 10 minutes following each race & at the awards ceremony (1 copy per school).

Each race will start promptly at the time listed on the meet schedule.  Even if a preceding race has not finished, we will start the next race.  Make sure your athletes arrive at the starting line 10 minutes early to make sure they do not miss the start of their race. We have one change in the race schedule; Boys AAA will start at 10:40am instead of 10:30am. All other races will stay the same.

VERY IMPORTANT: Coaches and spectators MAY NOT go up the hill using the entrance that the athletes use.  The spectator path that will allow you to get up to the upper part of the course to watch the races is behind the press box inside the football stadium. Please don’t attempt to use the gate the athletes use so no interference occurs with competing runners.

All awards ceremonies will be held in the football field end zone.  Only the top 10 individuals in each race and team awards will be given at the awards ceremonies. The top 10 runners need to report behind the awards stand before the start of the ceremony. Awards 11-25 will be given in the chute immediately following each race.
