Meet: A-AA Boys State Meet Predictions
Location: Cabell Midland High School
Date: To be held October 28, 2006
Predicted A-AA Boys Team Results
Ravenswood is a solid favorite to bring home its 7th consecutive State Championship. The
could have five runners in before anyone else's fourth, and if they run really well, they
could have five in before anyone else's third. If they run poorly, though, Ritchie will
be knocking on the door. A couple "step-up" performances by the Rebels along with a mediocre
showing by Ravenswood could swing things the other way. Winfield is the favorite to take
the third spot. Wheeling Central could challenge them but will have to run far better than
they did at their regional meet. Tucker leads a close pack battling for the 5th spot. Any
team having a bad day stands to lose several positions in the team standings, as only 18 points
separates 5th from 10th.
1. Ravenswood 57
2. Ritchie 91
3. Winfield 134
4. Wheeling Central 145
5. Tucker 177
6. Shady Spring 183
7. PikeView 187
8. Charleston Catholic 189
9. Oak Glen 190
10. Berkeley Springs 195
11. Doddridge 217
12. Keyser 228
Predicted Boys A-AA Top 25
Levi Grandt comes in as the favorite having been exceptionally strong all season long,
capped by a sub-17 minute run on Doddridge's challenging Regional course. Only he
and Andrew Benford have ever run the course under 17:00. Zack Noel beat Grandt last
year, though, and has to be considered a major threat. Skyler McCoy beat Noel at the
GEICO Classic held on the State Meet Course in September, so he could move up as well.
The next spots are up for grabs. Wise, Hall, and Jones could finish in any order.
Hall beat Jones at the Regional Meet and beat Wise at the Conference meet. Wise edged
Jones at Chick-Fil-A, while both beat Hall. I'm going with Wise because I think he'll
be stronger on the track at the finish. Hall did outkick him at the Conference Meet,
though. Brian Wilson and Lenny Roach could both sneak in and break that group up.
Wilson beat Jones at the Wild & Wet Invitational, and Roach has really come on strong
late in the season. Lucas Warner and Kurt Gray look to cap off the top 10. I could
realistically see anyone in the top 18 or so cracking the top 10 (that being said,
I recall picking someone 24th who got 5th one year). The predicted top 25 are as follows.
1 1 Grandt, Levi 11 Doddridge
2 2 Noel, Zack 12 Winfield
