2006 Off-Season Additions

As always, I performed an analysis on last season's meets to compile a list of off-season additions to the Runner Rankings. This is necessary in order to keep the number of ranked runners at a decent level. In prior years, there was only one level of off-season addition. You either made it or you didn't. Returning ranked runners got 25 points added to their score and the off-season additions were added at 15 points. It hardly seemed fair that someone who came within 15 seconds of getting ranked four or five times was getting added at the same score as someone who came within 60 seconds twice. As a result, I'm doing a bit of an experiment this year.

I added 50 points to the returning ranked runners, and there are 6 categories of off-season additions. The categories are based on a scoring system that awarded five points for being within 15 seconds of getting ranked in a meet, three points for being within 30 seconds, and one point for being within 60 seconds. Runners scoring 25 or more points using this method were added at a score of 40 points. Runners scoring between 15 and 24 points were added at a score of 30 points. Runners scoring between 10 and 14 points were added at a score of 20 points. Runners scoring between 6 and 9 points were added at a score of 15 points. Runners scoring between 2 and 5 points were added at a score of 10 points. Runners scoring 1 point were added at a score of 5 points.
