Meet: A-AA Girls State Meet Predictions Location: Mineral Wells, WV Date: To be held November 1, 2003 Predicted A-AA Girls Team Results Doddridge and Grafton have battled all season long. This meet should be no different. The meet will be decided in the trenches, with runners 3, 4, and 5. Grafton appears to have an edge in these positions and will enter this meet as the favorite. Wheeling Central is still a bit of an unknown, not having run against the State's elite teams at all this season. Their times indicate that they are a threat to steal the top spot, and they should not be taken lightly. There should be a close battle for fourth between Charleston Catholic and Keyser. 1. Richwood 226 Predicted A-AA Girls Top 25 Clara Grandt sits atop the Runner Rankings, but Valerie Peer has not tasted defeat to an in-state opponent since early in the season (and that was to teammate Laurel Thomas). Included in those meets is a resounding victory at the Chick-fil-A Invitational, in which Peer outdistanced the field by over 30 seconds. On the basis of that victory, we're tabbing Peer as the favorite in this meet, with Grandt to follow close behind. Laurel Thomas is battling an injury and may not be 100%, but we're giving her the benefit of the doubt and placing her in the third position. Jennie Spencer has been making tremendous strides late in the season. Jennifer Povick appears to be over a mid-season slump and back into her more typical form. Kasey Jividen has been strong throughout and owns a pair of wins over Spencer. Any of these six could crack into the top 3. Erika Rucker looks to lead the Grafton charge. Allison Simpson could climb higher than the 8th position we've slotted her for. Kallen Weaver will finally get a chance to run with the State's top competition and should garner an All-State Award for her efforts. Sarah Rosier could give Grafton a pair of All-State performers. There are several others just on the edge of the top 10 who could very easily slip in and take an All-State spot.
